Lift Your Voice and Sing

With busy lives, it is sometimes hard to get together with friends as often as we’d like. But it’s important to make time -- which is exactly what a group of us try to do a few times a year.

As a group we’ve done things like belly-dance lessons, karaoke night, painting, and simple potluck dinners to bond and catch up. Our most recent gathering was a brunch themed “Inspirational Sharing”. Everyone shared their favorite inspirational message and with that, we ended up singing “Lift Every Voice And Sing”. It was a true celebration of friendship and sisterhood! :-)

As women of color, we understand the historical significance of “Lift Every Voice And Sing”. Although we mixed a few of the lyrics, the power of the song and all that it represents is why we all joined in. So, in the final days of Black History Month I thought I’d share a brief clip of us singing with you here.

Black History Month is a celebration of achievements by black Americans. If you’d like to know more about “Lift Every Voice and Sing” you can read about it here. http://www.naacp.org/pages/naacp-history-lift-evry-voice-and-sing
