Fashionista Flurries

Last September was my first trip to Fashion Week, so the anticipation of attending again this year was akin to children waiting for Santa to come deliver presents. Andrea, who is in charge of my hair and make-up; Melissa, a QVC blogger; and I chattered the entire length of the drive to NY from Studio Park

...Who's show are you going to? ....what do you think we'll see...I wonder if we'll get any snow .....Do you want to try to go shopping? ...How did you get tickets to THAT show?

As we passed Bryant Park on the way to the Hotel, the excitement inside the car could have levitated that vehicle right off the asphalt. We were giddy with the kind of joy that bubbles from deep within your soul. We quickly checked in and agreed to meet in the lobby 20 minutes later to scope things out. We were women on a mission. The stakes were extremely high...just how much could we accomplish before the Abominable Snow Man thrust his arms and aimed gigantic snow darts in our directions. Ok, so maybe the Abominable Snow Man wasn't there exactly; but it felt like he was. And we didn't want to miss out on a single bit of the fun.

With three of us, we needed a plan: Where to go first? Thankfully the streets surrounding Bryant Park are basically set up in a grid-like pattern. Bryant Park sits on 6th (which is the Avenue of the America's). 7th Avenue (Fashion Avenue) borders the Fashion district. We were in the thick of it. I could have just stood at the corner and smelled the smells and listened to the hustle and bustle of the street noise. For me it was better than aromatherapy. After all, this is NY. This is the Fashion Mecca. And I was just sure I could even feel the buzz.

No, that wasn't “buzz” I was feeling. How about a big fat slice of reality, madam...that my dear is wetter than “buzz”...it is colder than “buzz”. Oh dear, if I didn't know any better, I would almost think that was snow?!?!? But we're at SPRING Fashion Week. It can't be snow. Oh, yes it can. And it was.

Each flake that melted on my nose somehow also sapped away my sensibilities one droplet at a time. After all, this is a twice a year event. I wouldn't want to miss anything. I shouldn't miss anything. This was my duty. Right?!?! So on we trudged. Back and forth, up and down streets, sneaking into stores along the way; stopping by a few street vendors. We analyzed. We conferred. We examined. This was the groundwork necessary to adequately prepare us for the next day. For tomorrow, we would be visiting designer showrooms, speaking with the designers and dropping by the tents.
