Dancing for Charity

Kate, our resident chatter for AM Style, had the day off last Saturday. Read her blog below to learn how she helped others and had fun while doing so:

"Last Last Saturday I had the day off to participate in a charity dancing event called, "Dancing for Our Future Stars". It's similar to the real "Dancing With The Stars" but with local dancers and professional coaches.

I was lucky for the opportunity to be a "celeb" representing QVC and dance the Tango for nearly 1,000 people at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia, PA. We danced to gain votes which equaled donations. The money raised would then help support and benefit the children who attend the 15 Independence Mission Schools in the Philadelphia area. If you are interested, you can read more about it on their website: www.dancingforourfuturestars.com

My dance partner, Michael, and I practiced as often as we could, but it was tough with our busy work schedules. Most of the time we trained until very late at night. I have no professional dance experience, so to learn such detailed footwork that the tango requires, was pretty challenging for me! I definitely gained a huge amount of respect for professional dancers!

On the night of the event, we competed against 11 other couples, who did all sorts of fun routines! I was pretty nervous to take the floor, especially in front of so many strangers, but once I started, I felt more relaxed. We didn't win the coveted mirror ball trophy, but I was very proud of our tango and how well we performed! I think I did QVC proud! : )

The venue was gorgeous and I was honored to dance for such a worthy cause!
I had lots of fun and it's something to mark off of my bucket list!
