My Dad, My Rock

My Dad

Good morning my LCNY fashionistas,

Summer is almost officially here. Sarah and Bryan were married on June 21 last year, the first day of summer, so I have a wonderful reminder. The Davies clan has gotten through the craziest busiest spring ever, I dare say. Meg and Matt are now married, Kevin is officially a high school graduate, and their mother has finally settled into summer living. That means outdoor grilling, visiting friends, and trying to sneak some time in at the pool for a bit of vitamin D therapy.....a little color.

This past weekend was Father's Day. A tough one in our house. Each of our children dealt with it in their own way. They texted each other throughout the day of funny memories they had of Larry. I told them that they should each do something that they knew he liked and did with him that way they would feel close. It worked; it was a day of celebration of life. He would have loved that. I had a lovely Father's Day dinner with my dad at my brother's house. My Dad is Bruce Peter, age 82 and full of life and energy. My Mom and Dad will be married 60 years next February.....he is a character. He enjoys life to the fullest each day and is a friend to all. He is a tough guy with a hearty laugh, but yet gentle enough to know he has your back.

When I was in seventh grade I was invited to a party. All the girls were going to be wearing makeup but me. He took me to the store and I bought my first lipstick, it was coral. He told me I looked beautiful, need I say more. My Dad gives great advice. He always wants me to get to the end of my story quicker than I can, but his advice is immeasurable. He has always been there...through good and bad, solid like a rock. He took the loss of his son in law pretty bad, trying to be brave for all of us but many a tear flowed. My children and I have great comfort in knowing that he, my dad; their POPOP is only a phone call away. He is our ROCK. We reach out a lot, he is solid.

A friend called me on Father's Day and wished me happy FATHER'S DAY. At first I was taken aback, and he said I am proud of the way you are wearing both hats. You have been there for your children as a Mom and Dad. You are their ROCK. I have learned from a great one.....my own. All my love Dad.....I am one lucky girl.

Join Nancy and I for a full hour of LCNY on Wednesday, from 9 to 10 am. MBR is celebrating her son's graduation and being the wonderful Mom that she is. See you soon.
