Why Does Dennis Basso Wear Blue Jeans For AM Style?

I have a lot of Dennis Basso “stories”. With his larger-than-life personality and infectious enthusiasm, there have been many memorable moments. But my favorite Dennis anecdote is this one...

For years, Dennis had been a frequent guest on AM Style. Always appearing on air impeccably dressed in a suit and tie. I never gave much thought to the fact that, in order to arrive on time for our early morning show, he traveled by car from New York City in the wee hours. As you might expect, for the drive down, he wore his comfy clothes -- sweat pants.

Driving from NY to QVC

One particular Saturday, Dennis arrived in his sweat pants, with garment bag in tow. He settled into the green room and everything was fine until he realized that the garment bag contained only “part” of his suit. Somehow, the pants had been left behind. What to do...? We couldn’t cancel his presentation, but there were no suit pants!

I explained that Saturday mornings on AM Style are laid-back and relaxed. No one would mind if he was too. So, in true Dennis fashion, he put on the jacket, and shirt and tie -- he even put on his dress shoes. And he wore them with the SWEAT PANTS! It was hilarious, and the most fun we had ever had on the air.

These days, Dennis is impeccably dressed in jeans and a sports coat for his AM Style appearances. I take a little credit for his more relaxed style. And he agrees.

I adore Dennis Basso! In my 18 years at QVC (He’s celebrating 20!) he has become a dear friend. Yes, he is a celebrated designer, his runway shows are amazing, and his clients are some of the most famous people around. But the joy and pride that he continues to take in his collection for QVC is evident in every piece. And the fact that he’s just as passionate wearing a designer suit or sweat pants makes him all the more delightful!
