Why Do We Wear the Colors We Wear? (And What Colors Are ""In"" for Summer?)

Do you ever wonder why you choose to wear the colors that you wear? Is it strictly fashion, or can color actually be a window to who we are and how we feel? I've been studying the effects of color recently and I have to say, it's VERY interesting. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

The minute it’s warm out, the first thing we think of is wearing white. It makes sense. Spring is a new beginning and white is the color of purity, cleansing, and new beginnings. You put on a white blouse or dress and it feels like a brand new day. Next time you feel like you need a new start, reach for the white. Lucky for us, we can wear this springy shade right into summer…it’s an “in” color. And, we have two "Looks" in the show on Friday that are all about white. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Into the White

So, what about black? Interestingly enough, evidently, black is a color that people wear when they don’t want to give away their feelings. It’s emotionally closed and controlling, and generallly worn by someone who doesn't want to stand out in a crowd. Well......guilty. Next color. LOL!

What about blue? Blue is the color of calm and concentration. It’s a color that helps in focus and meditation and has a "still waters run deep" kind of effect. Blue also lends itself to looking capable and credible and it’s the reason the "power shirt" in the business world is a blue. Whether you want to look grounded or credible, grab a great blue top this summer. By the way, the G.I.L.I.(TM) blouse in the look called "Into the White,” also comes in a beautiful blue. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Red is the color of confidence. It’s a color of strength and power, and is also a great way to catch a man's eye. Studies have proven that red is one of the colors that men find the most attractive.

Orange is all energy. Need a boost today? Maybe dragging a little? Give yourself a boost in orange. It’s a color of energy and creativity…kind of a red without the edge, if you will. It makes you stand out in a crowd and never makes you look shy. Orangey shades are also “in” for summer and we have a couple looks coming up Friday that demonstrate some great ways to wear it.

Color Your Summer

Freshly Picked

Pink is the color of an open heart. It’s been shown that pink is the most universally flattering color when studies were done of what colors look best on every skin tone. I wonder if pink really is the most flattering, or if we percieve people who wear pink to be more caring and loving, and therefore they look more attractive to us. Hmmmm........either way, it works.

I’m so excited about the Judith Ripka Aurora Cuff in the show this week. It’s a new, limited edition piece and I think it’s one of the most beautiful and special I’ve ever seen. We have a brand new beauty line inspired by the beauty of the Geishas, a perfect leather bag for summer in lots of colors, and we'll be meeting our new emerging designer. It is, once again, a full week!

Hope to see you, Friday night at 10pm ET for The Lisa Robertson Show. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

P.S. So who is this week's featured designer? Meet Jonathan Cohen!
