Runway Recap! See Lisa's Favorite NY Fashion Week Trends for Fall 2013

Last week, we spent a few days in New York interviewing a number of designers who are creating a lot of buzz in the world of fashion. Spending time with these talented, passionate people makes me excited about fashion! And, it makes me excited about the joy of shopping for that perfect new piece.

This time of year, the designers are in New York to present their new collections. Of course, those collections aren't for Spring and Summer 2013. Instead, they're for fall. (This is traditionally where buyers see the new collections and decide what they're interested in ordering for the fall and winter seasons.)

In watching the runway shows, the fun part is spotting the trends of the season so I can start deciding how to work it into my wardrobe. I'm not wearing couture, but it's good inspiration.

Brandon Sun - Fall 2013

Brandon Sun is one of the designers that we interviewed last week. This piece, in his new collection, shows a few runway trends. One is a mixing of rich, beautiful textures. Here, he mixes leather, fur, and metallic, but the mixing is something you'll see in many different versions. The other trend represented is the asymmetrical hemlines we've been enjoying in fashion recently. It looks like we can stock up…these are going to be here for awhile. (Yay!)

Naeem Khan - Fall 2013

Bold color will be a noticeable presence in fashion this fall. From deep colors like power red, deep teals, and aubergine to bright pops of almost neon, if you like color, you'll have no shortage of options for the colder months. The one shoulder look was still noticeable on the runways and I'm thrilled. I think it's an extremely flattering look, and we should all insist that it remain a staple.

Rodarte - Fall 2013

The lightness of sheer fabrics was an element with a number of different designers this Fashion Week. It enables you to lighten up the look of an otherwise heavy, wintery ensemble. And, it adds an element of fresh femininity to a cold-weather wardrobe. Black and white continues into fall as well. You'll see traditional "spectator" to black with white substitutes like this champagne blush.

Oscar De La Renta - Fall 2013

Not just color, but print…in a big way! You'll have the option of a smaller, geometric traditional print, a large graphic print, or pretty much any print you want. This is an easy way for a lot of us to make our fall wardrobe look new, since adding a few good print pieces will be a huge departure from our typical solid world. Smiley Happy

Dennis Basso - Fall 2013

The "no color, color" trend is going strong into fall this year, as well. It refers to soft neutrals, in colors like putty, champagne, ivory, blush, etc., being worn together. The trick is to create a palette by using a number of different tones. It can be very cutting edge or extremely soft and feminine. It's all up to you.

Fashion is how we express ourselves, identify ourselves, and try on different "moods" for different days. Men don't have the range of opportunities that women do, and it's one of the things that makes it fun to be a girl. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Count me in!
