A New Year, New Resolutions, and A New Thing just around the corner!

I don’t know about you, but the ending to my 2012 was something similar to that of Augustus Gloop from Willy Wonka… every time someone called my name… sweet in hand, cookie in hand… Deer in headlights as one of my parents continued to tell me “You’ll ruin your appetite!” in that same ornery voice as on Christmas Story with the whole “You’ll shoot your eye out”.   You see, I was starting to get full of food and tired around December 24thand by December 27th  when I came home… the New Year’s Resolutions couldn’t come quickly enough!

My boyfriend Aaron and I decided to ring in the New Year with some friends in NYC and with that I thought what a great way to make some exciting resolutions in one of the most exciting cities in the world.

This year I vowed only to make resolutions that would ultimately make me happy, things that I knew I could stick with and maybe inspire others around me.  So here’s my list…

1) Drink at least 3 green smoothies a week.  I decided on this one after reading an article in a women’s health magazine of a raw veggie diet.   After reading the title and the captions I wanted to throw the magazine outside my house and stomp on it.  How could anyone think that you could be happy to sit down at the table eating parsnips and carrots?  Not this lady… I decided to class it up a bit and continue to read the article… everything from antioxidants, energy, clean skin, overall health was in the article.  It wasn’t until the end of the article that there was some kind of hope… salvation… that offered the reader to put all of the fruits and veggies into a blender and make a smoothie.  Here’s the recipe I have been drinking occasionally for breakfast and I have to say, it’s delicious, filling, and tastes like a kiwi. I can already tell a difference in my energy levels and how I feel when I have one of these.   Here you go…

Handful of kale (PS I’ve never had kale until I started making this drink), Handful of spinach, spoonful of CHIA seeds, 1 banana,  one serving of either frozen peaches or mangos, and 2 cups of water.  For those of you who have a Vitamix or a Ninja it will only take a few seconds to blend.  Enjoy!

2) Work out more.  This one is totally easier said than done and for the majority of 2012 I ignored it.  If you ever have worked an overnight shift, you know how hard they can be on you in terms of how much sleep you are actually getting.  This year I plan to not use the “I am tired” excuse… I want to be as healthy as I can be, one small step at a time.  I bought the Tracy Anderson Metamorphosis DVD set and resolve to do it at least 3 times a week… sure that’s not on the method… but I’m not sure I’m at the method level YET, if you get what I’m saying J.  I have enjoyed the Dance Cardio very much… and the muscle strengthening… I won’t say I enjoy that yet… still fighting the urge to fall over, take a nap, and grab a snack in betweenJ.

3) Spend as much time as I can with my parents.  Over Christmas my parents had some home movies made into DVDs of all of us at a vacation spot we used to go to every year.  It was amazing to see my parents and their unconditional love for me.  I can’t tell you what it was like reliving those memories, but I know I would like the opportunity to do a better job of documenting the time that I have with them whether here in Philadelphia or in the town’s they live in.  Plus they are extremely funny… so I like to capture their humor as well.

4) Start going to church.  Aaron and I have been casually watching our old church in Atlanta sermons via the internet for the last year, but I still feel like I would be moved so much more if it were actually in person.  Again, with my overnights and any day of the week schedule, I’d like to resolve to go to church in our area at least once a month.

5) Finally, be a friend that anyone can count on.   Even if they don’t know me that well.

Isn’t it exciting to turn a new leaf at the beginning of the year?  I’d love to hear what your resolutions are.

Finally, with a new year comes a new thing at the Q!  While Gabrielle is out spending time with her beautiful new baby, I will be your new social host for PM STYLE.  I’m so excited to be able to spend Monday’s with you, because if there’s one thing I love, it’s Fashion!  Tomorrow will be my first day on and it will be with the one and only, Jane Treacy while Lisa is away vacationing.  I already took a sneak peak and the show and here’s my favorite item is a dress by Clinton Kelly.  See you at a special time, Jan. 7th at 6PM EST.

Love,
