We Are Family...

“We Are Family” is a song that most everyone of a certain age knows. It was a hit for Sister Sledge in 1979. If you try, I’ll bet you can hum the melody and probably even sing a few verses.

“We are family,

I’ve got all my sisters with me.”

Now, imagine a six-year-old singing karaoke with his fifty-year-old aunt to the track of that thirty-year-old song. Well, that was just one of the delightful moments from my family’s reunion last month!

Family is the most important thing, and there is nothing better than coming together to celebrate that. My brother and sister and I hosted our family reunion at the house where we grew up. We kept our family home after our parents were gone because it’s the place that helped shape the people that we became. No matter where we go, it’s always home.

So having aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and family friends join us there was a true blessing. We had good food, good fun, and good times. And at the end of the day, we were reconnected in a way that only family can be.

Oh, and I asked my sister, how her six-year-old knew a song from thirty years ago. She looked at me and smiled and said, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”!

We are family...

See you Saturday!
