Beat the Heat with a Designer's Help!

by on ‎06-21-2012 03:51 PM

It hit 97 degrees this week in New York City. NINETY-SEVEN! My poor cat stationed himself in front of our air conditioner with no intentions of moving any time soon! It is also fitting that I'm writing this during the Summer Solstice.

Cooling Off...

I got to thinking about how to actually look 'cute' in this weather. There is no need to show too much skin! It is more about the color, weight, and the fabrics you choose to wear. Knowing that Isaac Mizrahi's designs will always have a classic sensibility; I know I can leave the house feeling nice and cool, yet still pulled together and classy.

Here are a couple tips that are tried and true for 'beating the heat.'

Wear lighter colors – this can seem obvious but definitely bears mentioning. Black is OK if you're getting dress solely for an evening event.. But stick to your favorite pastels, whites, and creams if you're dressing for day. Try Isaac's  ISAACMIZRAHILIVE! Short Sleeve Sequin Scoop Neck T-Shirt A212842 in Pink Blossom or Ecru.

Try lightweight fabrics – Stear clear of heavy denims and fabric blends that are stiff and heavy. Breathable cotton, beautiful silk, and lightweight rayon is the key to comfort! I love this Peony print cotton cardigan A222880 in Lavender if I need a light sweater that can transition from indoors to outside.

A pattern can disguise your 'glow' – Where I grew up in the South, we always said, “Southern women don't 'sweat,' they simply 'glow.''' I love this saying but let's be honest.. I can do a lot of 'glowing' in this kind of weather! A gorgeous pattern can mask any little spots of perspiration you may notice when you're in the hot sun. Not only is this Impressionist Print Silk V-Neck Dress A213377 a lovely pattern, but it is also in breathable silk!
