Friday's Topic on LRS—The Look: ""American Woman""

by on ‎03-14-2012 05:19 PM

When you think of American sophistication and luxury, two designers immediately come to my mind: Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors. These gentleman took the European concept of luxury as a starting point and went on to infuse it with an energy and point of view that makesit uniquely American. I like to think of Ralph Lauren as creating the design heritage, and Michael Kors as making it look like it just got off a private plane. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin} Their looks are a mix of elements: always elegant, a little unexpected, and never "paint by number." I like to study them, whether I'm wearing them or not, to see how they create their looks.

My interpretation of classic American style comes through in one of the "Looks" on The Lisa Robertson Show this week. In fact, we called it  "American Woman." It starts with a neutral dress that can be worn many different styles. Then it gets a touch of edge with a leather K-DASH vest, a touch of sophistication with Honora pearls, and a touch of luxury with a beautiful Dooney & Bourke satchel. Having the confidence to mix these elements is something that's unmistakable on a woman with great style. And it's the combination and ease of the final result that make it, in my view, uniquely American.
