Hi, everyone. Welcome to the new Lisa Robertson Show blog.

Our very first show debuts this Friday night at 10pm ET! This week, and every Friday to come, we’ll be featuring lots of designer-looks and discussing all kinds of up-and-coming trends. But, just like a magazine, we’ll have a featured story that we’ll mention on air and discuss in-depth here in my blog, on QVC.com, the iPad, and Facebook—oh, and Twitter! (That’s new! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin})

This Friday’s feature is wardrobe essentials: the building blocks that make a great wardrobe. My style, in general, is more classic. And, it’s comprised of a lot of essential pieces. I love the simplicity and steadfastness of a great black jacket and a little black dress. (Truthfully, I love anything black. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}) Every woman must have at least one pair of quality jeans that hug their every curve. There’s got to be a chic white blouse (on second thought, several of those) hanging in the closet. And, a classic cardigan is key.

For the most part, wardrobe essentials are timeless; they’re untouched by fads and fleeting trends. But, you should update those classics with trendy, modern elements. For example, definitely wear a ruffled white blouse under that classic jacket. Absolutely belt that little black dress at the waist. And be creative with your cardigan and a colorful scarf. Every time you update a classic with a modern element, it’s like you’re wearing a brand new outfit.

So when should you replace those essentials? As soon as the pieces start to show signs of wear. You can’t look polished and put-together if your clothes aren’t polished and put-together. Similarly, if your essentials no longer fit, replace them. If it’s worth it to have the garment tailored, have it done. Don’t ever “wear something for the last time.” Your clothes should never get to that level.

We’re bringing you three great wardrobe building blocks this Friday...a jacket, a wrap top, and a fabulous black dress —all GILI, and all inspired by pieces in my closet. We’re also welcoming Wendy Williams to QVC and welcoming back one of my favorite designers, Mark Zunino.

See you Friday.
