Traveling with your Mackie

Is it just me, or has traveling become much more difficult?  I have been flying about once a month down to Atlanta, Georgia for the last three months for business.  I have developed a new appreciation for making good decisions with packing for travel.  I think most of us have experienced the fees that have been tagged on to baggage when you fly.  And I don’t mean “additional” baggage.  No, if you check anything you have to pay $25.00.  Personally, I feel that it is a bit outrageous given the price of some flights, but I guess it’s the result of the gas prices.  And, of course, security is full of hassles, but necessary ones.  Travel just isn’t easy anymore at all.  If you’re like me, you’re doing your best to get everything in your carry-on to avoid these extra costs.  It’s been a learning curve to figure out how to make the most of a wardrobe for 4-5 days with a carry-on.  In the past, I have been known to be the one who takes way more that I need so that I have a choice of outfits with some left over that I never even wear.  Those days of luxury are gone.

Let’s imagine your wardrobe.  A basic bottom, usually in black, is key, right? And I would say to take the best option for wear…maybe a pant?  When making this choice, I considered:  comfort, weather, versatility and fabric (for the wrinkle factor).  Once I have my key basic coordinate, I add in my tops.  These are the ones that I will usually wear once.  Coordinating layering pieces in a similar color family is a great way to go.  I have realized that if I approach my packing in this way, not only could I make my wardrobe all fit in my carry-on, but I could stretch my items for the length of time that I needed and always look great and put together.  Also, don’t forget to think about accessories.  You can often transform a look with the right piece of jewelry or a scarf, such as Bob Mackie’s Silk Chiffon Imperial Scarf (A94933).  These are items that can offer more versatility from a silhouette, but not add too much to your suitcase.

As you know Bob Mackie has many great layering pieces.  Incorporate some of your Wearable Art pieces into your travel wardrobe and then you will make a beautiful statement anywhere you go.  Check out Bob Mackie’s ¾ Sleeve Drape Front Cardigan Set with Tank (A217654).  This is a great layering item to travel with because you can wear the cardigan and tank together or split them up and incorporate them into two different outfits!

And don’t forget to check out Bob’s terrific coordinating basics to work with all of your statement pieces, such as Bob Mackie’s Long Sleeve Solid Turtleneck (A209270) or Bob Mackie’s Fly Front Pants with Side Elastic (A213860).

So, now that I have you in “packing mode”….Where would you like to take a trip to or where have you most recently traveled to?

Let me know and be sure to share any great suggestions for others who may be planning trips.  Great places to visit, hotels to stay in or restaurants to eat at are always valuable information to share.
