My Third Week at QVC@LA LIVE!

by on ‎09-26-2011 01:52 PM

Hello there! I’ve certainly been enjoying California and absolutely love this weather. It’s just like when you’re at the beach back at home and the evenings get chilly when you’re near the water. However during the day it never gets too hot either so it's the best of both worlds. I’ll tell you besides the weather I’m certainly going to miss the food, too. It reminds me so much of my time in NYC when we could just get out of work and head in any direction and there was gourmet food everywhere. That’s how it is here food everywhere! I can’t wait for Steve to get here (tomorrow) so I can have someone to wine and dine with.  Wish there was a subway system here so I could wine a bit more. The good thing is, if we do want a nightcap there are plenty of places to go in walking distance of where I’m staying. Hopefully next week my last L.A. blog will be filled with lots of great stories from my few days with the hubby. This week I’ll fill you in on all that I’ve been doing around the town.

I have to try and remember where we left off. This might go out of order just a little bit as sometimes my days start to run together. Let’s start with the Emmys. If you watched the show you heard me say how mesmerized I was with the amount of limos and black SUVs that were outside my window that Sunday afternoon. I had my face pressed to the glass for about 30 minutes just in awe of the procession. I kept thinking, my goodness, the cast from Dexter could be out there right now, all the Glee kids could be driving past my condo. Speaking of Glee, Lea Michele gets my vote for best dress from the Emmys. Loved the back of that Marchesa gown. After I peeled myself away from the window I had to get ready to head over to the set. It was just exciting to walk right next to the red carpet and up the elevator to our studio. Very cool!

Also that weekend was a lot of fun because the crew surprised me with a Skype visit from Steve during the show on Saturday night. I don’t have Skype on my work computer, nor am I allowed to download it, so it was the first time we saw each other in three weeks and it all happened live. I got a little teary-eyed and then went right into my bossy-but-loving wife mode and yelled at him for wearing a T-shirt on TV. It was so nice to see him and so nice of the crew to think of doing that for me.

Monday I turned into a football fan shocking I know. I only went to Monday Night Football because everyone was going and they promised the food was good. I have no idea what happened during the game but I will say my burger stuffed with cheese in the middle, loaded with all the toppings, and on yummy bread was enough to turn me into a football fan. Plus, when I sat down at our table and looked to my left, there was Turtle from Entourage. Don’t know his real name, sorry, but I will say he’s cute. Much tinier in person than I would've thought. After the game we all went back to our condo building and the guys had a ping-pong match and the ladies had wine and crackers outside while we enjoyed the lovely California evening.

Alright so now I’m really going to brag TUESDAY! Jonathan and I were invited to meet Ole Henriksen (pronounced ew-la) at his famous Sunset Plaza spa. I must confess I was not all that aware of who he was. Turns out his spa is visited my more celebs than I can name. For starters, his first star client ever was Barbra Streisand, his longest client is Kirk Douglas, and he's visited by the newbies, too, like Katy Perry. Well, not only did Jonathan and I get to meet and chat with Ole, but he treated us to a day at the spa. A massage, a facial, and a body treatment. I felt like a star! He has a product line that's fantastic and we'll have it on an upcoming show, so look out! Afterwards we went over to Chaz Dean’s salon, called The Bungalow. The man is a design genius! He’s bought three separate small bungalow homes all in a row and has connected them with the most amazing landscape I've seen. Fig trees, aloe plants, fish ponds, fireplaces, and more all intertwine his salon. Then, when you go in each building, they're all renovated but maintain the historic features  it’s just fab! I hope one day we get to do a show live from his salon because you have to see it. I called it a night after that and went home, made dinner, and watched the Dancing with the Stars show from the night before. So many good performers, but that’s a whole other blog.

Wednesday night we had a show but I had an interesting afternoon before I made it to work. I met up with my first love, my high school boyfriend, Ian. Such a great guy and I’m thankful to this day that he was my first real love as he treated me only with respect. It’s nice to be able to be friends and hear about his life and tell him all about mine. I know a lot of times we can’t have that with our exes but when you think about how young we were the word "ex" doesn’t even come to my mind. He’s more like an old friend. It was funny though to sit across from him as a 32-year-old and remember who I was at 18.

Now it's Thursday and we have our last show for this week. I need to figure out what I want to wear and pack my dinner. If I eat before I leave I just get hungry again so I've been bringing food over every night. We have catering on the set and there is so much junk all around me that it's been hard to say no to everything I see. Like white chocolate macadamia nut cookies and I have become good friends.

Not sure if I'll be able to go to bed tonight as I know when I lay my head down to go to sleep Steve will  be getting ready to get up and get ready for the airport.  I'm so excited to see him! If any of you have long-distance relationships I don't know how you do it and give you lots of credit. I love my husband, but sometimes talking on the phone is just not fun.

Have a great week and I'll write more soon,

Amy
