Wardrobe Re-run: How Often Do You Repeat an Outfit?

by on ‎07-29-2011 03:42 PM

Sitting in a waiting room earlier this week, I scanned several dog-eared magazines on a table in front of me. One of them caught my eye, so I picked it up and began to read. It was obviously a couple of weeks old because the cover story heralded the arrival of the royal newlyweds in North America; page after page of outings and outfits. There was much attention paid to the new Duchess and her sense of style. And it was all pretty routine until I flipped to the page with the headline: “Kate wears same jeans 3 days in a row”. She had worn the jeans different ways each day, and that wasn’t her only repeat. The page was filled with photos of her wearing various outfits on more than one occasion.

How refreshing! It’s a smart woman who gets good mileage out of her wardrobe.

There are different schools of thought on how often you should repeat what you wear. Some say there should be a two to three week rotation before you wear something again for day-to-day. The suggested time between wearings can be even longer for outfits worn to special events like weddings and parties.

I say, if it’s a good outfit and you love it - wear it. There are a lot of ways to change a look. Different shoes, belts, scarves, and jewelry can transform any ensemble. And mixing and matching pieces really does give you multiple outfits from a few key items. If you style it right, no one will ever know you’ve worn the same suit three days in the last week.

So here’s to all the ladies who know that terrific clothes should be worn - how often is up to you!

Speaking of terrific clothes - be sure to join me on Fashion Day - Saturday, August 6th! There will be some beautiful “Must Have” pieces (some of which are seen below) throughout the day as well as a very stylish Today’s Special Value.
