Back in Italy - Vicenza tonight!

by on ‎06-03-2011 01:25 PM

Back in Italy again (and it's good to be back)! I’m near Vicenza and tonight is the first night of Vicenza Style. I had such a wonderful time in South Africa with my friend Kym and my dad. (My dad is still there, enjoying a few more days…I’m a little jealous.) In case you missed the photos I’ve been posting on Facebook, here are a few shots.

Lounging lioness

This Lioness is only about 15’ from the vehicle, and also walked right next to us for a moment. They start acclimating the animals gradually, to not identify the vehicles as a threat, so you can get very close sometimes. Sometimes you're just sitting still, being quiet, hanging out with the lions Smiley Happy It's amazing. P.S. After our close encounter, I can tell you that wild lions do not smell good!

My Dad

My dad, enjoying his safari. He was so close to a full-grown male lion that day that he could've reached out and touched it!

Me with our friend, Kym

Kym and I are having lunch in Capetown. It was so good, I had two! Apparently I was hungry. After a Greek Village salad and filet, I wisely passed on dessert. P.S. There's a seal playing in the ocean below us.

Cheetah preserve

The last stop before the airport a cheetah reserve. Cheetahs in the wild will hunt sheep, so farmers will hunt or trap them. This reserve rescues wounded cheetahs from the wild and also breeds Anatolian Shepherd dogs. The dogs are good at chasing cheetahs away, so the reserve gives them to the farmers. That way, the farmers don't have to hurt the cheetahs. It's a very interesting approach.

Anyway, back to the exciting business at hand…Vicenza Style tonight at 9 p.m. ET! We’ll be broadcasting live from one of the most beautiful villas we’ve ever seen in Italy, and showing jewelry that’s just as amazing. The vast majority of the jewelry in the shows is brand new, and we have more "Fresh From the Fair" items than ever before. We really found some amazing pieces at the fair and I can’t wait for you to see them. (In fact, I’m giving some sneak peeks at a few pieces on my Facebook page throughout the weekend. Hint, hint!) We have some gorgeous Drusy pieces in gold, some unbelievable pieces in silver from one of the most innovative factories in Italy, some beautiful gems like labradorite, and the list goes on. In fact, here’s a quick video we shot at the Vicenza Trade Fair with David Markstein, our lead gold buyer:

I’m looking forward to seeing you tonight! (And tomorrow night, and Sunday morning, and Sunday evening.)
