The Long & Short of It

How often do you realize that there's a long way of doing something and a short way? Telling a story, taking a trip, finding a solution…the list is endless.

I was getting ready to leave the Hamptons and drive back to NY when I realized that my weekend was truly a "long and short of it" kind of three days.

Played tennis twice…all doubles. First game, our fourth never showed. So, as my friend Roe is fond of saying, “long story short" or "LSS," we played Canadian doubles…or in English, two against one. And LSS, this guy did pretty well and came in second!

The opera addict in me was torn between going back into the city for a Saturday performance or staying out at the beach. Again, LSS, my local theater was showing a live simulcast from the Metropolitan Opera…Verdi's Il Trovatore in HD. And…they had popcorn! Can’t get that at the Met.

Stopped at the green market and bought a whole bunch of baby artichokes that I took home and steamed. And, LSS, kept them out and ate them all weekend with a little kosher salt and olive oil. So satisfying and all the prep was done!

Driving back from my second doubles game on a dark, dreary road, my beloved Range Rover died. LSS, there was still someone working late at the dealership who sent out a flatbed to tow me and gave me a loaner while my car is being diagnosed in ICU. What’s the worst place your car gave up on you?

Yesterday, I shopped for me. A whole new wardrobe of jeans. Promise to wear a different pair each time I’m on air on Thursday with my spring Today's Special Value which, by the way, is its own “long and short of it.” Let me know which color you like the best and how you plan to wear it!

And lastly, to celebrate the Osama news, I packed breakfast and drove out to the bay to watch the beauty of this part of the world. I watched fellow beachgoers out running and walking their dogs on a bright, clear morning. Freedom is great! See you Thursday and let’s Q together!
