Joan & David go to London!

Joan:

When QVC asked the two of us to blog I thought: what a fabulous idea!  I tweet http://twitter.com/Joan_Rivers , I Facebook http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Joan-Rivers/144568223039 and now I can blog to my hearts content. And with someone who gets my humor, knows me better than almost anyone else in the world AND has my sense of humor - YOU!

Grab the iPad David, I’m on board!

David:

We had a riot during our first sit down at putting this together…. We’d just boarded a 7+ hour flight home from London where we had finished 2 days at QVC and prowled all of London for great fashion inspiration!

Joan:

Unfortunately, the airline screwed up and you and I were not sitting together but across the aisle from each other.  The looks we got from fellow passengers while we laughed and started putting together ideas for this blog!

David:

One of the first things you decided to include is a regular feature on hot jewelry trends and our trip to London was full of them.

Joan:

We hit all the “High Street” shops (That’s the Brit’s way of saying expensive designer stores!) as well as the little out of the way boutiques on Kings Road and Portabello. We were joined by the newest member of our team, Janie Amoia, our Vice President of Design.

David, Janie, Martin and I at the Ritz Hotel for high tea.

After a hard day of scouring London for the latest and greatest designs trends, I treated David, Janie and my friend Martin to High Tea at the Ritz Hotel. If you ever have the opportunity to do this, I’m begging you, it’s worth every penny! )

David:

What I love about trend shopping with you is that moment when the lady that just sold you that antique brooch realizes who you are. There is a look that comes across the face and the inevitable: “Hey, aren’t you Joan Collins??!” And you have been known to say yes!

Joan:

OK, time to start talking about the trends, enough about Joan Collins. The 3 F’s: Flowers, Feathers and Fringe (and I like to add the 4th F – Fruffles! I do like my ruffles!!) were all over London. David, remember the soft, feminine silk flowers we saw on jackets, blouses, sweaters and jewelry at Selfridge’s? Tons of feathers, both real and in fabric prints on EVERYTHING including jewelry. And if it didn’t have fringe on it, forget it!

David:

Joan, the fringe was out of control! London was also camouflage crazy! Military influences in color, fabric and in the details. Epaulets, brass buttons, khakis, boots, fatigue pants….

Joan:

As you and I walked through Burberry, I thought I was back performing with the USO! Hello Sailor! Bob Hope, is that you?!

David:

And the 70’s influence was huge. Kaftans, big sunglasses and platform shoes looked awesome. And color, color and more color, particularly tones of orange which looked so good with the military greens and browns.

David and Joan at Heathrow Airport

Joan heard the message about ORANGE loud and clear as we checked into Heathrow! Check out the bag and necklace combo, all set off by a head to toe black ensemble, including Joan’s new drape front cardigan, A203705.
