Own an HP PC? Here are some GREAT tips for your new notebook!

One of the most valuable tools on your new HP PC is called the HP Support Assistant. This is your one-stop shop to maintain the performance of your PC and resolve problems through automated updates and tune-ups, built-in diagnostics, and a choice of assistance options. HP Support Assistant can be found through the program icon that should be your desktop. HINT: it looks like a big white question mark in a blue circle.

Here are a few tips to help you navigate and use HP Support Assistance:

Ensure your PC performance is optimized (recommended).

1.     Launch HP Support Assistant and in the bottom left-hand corner, click the Settings button.

2.     On the Health Analysis screen, select “Check and install updates automatically” to ensure all important updates are completed. NOTE: these are updates pushed to your PC from HP to improve/enhance performance and can include security improvements, software driver updates, new software features, and overall improvements.

Having a challenge? Follow these steps for the self-diagnostic tool!

1.     Launch HP Support Assistance, click on Get Assistance section.

2.     In the Get Assistance screen, select the icon next to the self-help option labeled “Run automated diagnostics and troubleshoot.” Important: allow the full analysis to run; don’t close the application while in progress.

3.     After the analysis is complete, the troubleshooting screen will open and display topic categories. These categories provide access to troubleshooting resources and configuration information. Categories with pending actions will be highlighted in red.

4.     Click the category most relevant to your problem or click a highlighted category to see the list of pending actions that may relate to your issue. For example, click the tile labeled "Performance and Software."

5.     On the category screen, click the sub-category tab most relevant to your problem. For example, click "Software, Drivers, and BIOS." Just remember that tabs with pending actions will be highlighted in red.

6.     From the sub-category screen you can:

a.     Apply suggested actions. Just click the wrench button next to the action or click the text of a tip to read it.

b.     Access resources. Click the book symbol to access topics and view tips or information. You can also click a double-arrow symbol to perform a task or access diagnostic tools.

c.      View provided configuration information.

Thanks everyone and happy computing!
