Twenty Years of 4th of July memories!

by on ‎07-01-2014 04:29 PM

It’s hard to believe, but on a beautiful Fourth of July weekend in 1994, Bill and I said “I do” in the presence of our families at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.  Everything was perfect, just as I had imagined, and that’s really all I could do is imagine given that I had never been there and this was pre-internet!  All I could do was refer to the brochure, trust my wedding contact at the hotel, and pray for good weather!  In a way, I think that made the experience more magical for me.  I didn't know until I walked through the door what the hotel, my room, the reception area, the flowers, nor the pastor would look like.  Oh, and speaking of pastors, he didn't show up for our rehearsal, and it wasn't until 9:30 the night before our morning wedding that I finally met him! Anyway, everything was fabulous!  Miles and Tiffany had never met my family, and it was so much fun watching all of my nieces bond with them.  In fact, they kicked us out of our bridal suite the night after the wedding for a slumber party! But not before they bribed me with a rose and Bill with local fudge.

That Fourth of July was the first of many magical ones.  Bill and I made a tradition of having pool parties with live music and lots of activities and food for friends and family.  We would head up the Turquoise Trail in our 1961 turquoise Lincoln convertible to join the parade in the old mining town of Madrid.

One year, much to our neighbors’ surprise, we decided to head “Up North”, as we Minnesotans call it, for a week of canoeing in the Boundary Waters.  Wow, what an absolute escape!  Luckily, my brother in-law and avid outdoors man, Al, was our guide through the portages and camp sites.  It was an escape full of pristine water and air, the northern lights, howling Timber wolves, calming loons, and no communication devices!  If only we had caught some fish.

Over our twenty years, Bill and I have cherished our travels with our QVC family as well.  There have been many memorable road trips. It all began in 2005 with our seven day journey along Route 66 with a QVC crew we had never met, but instantly bonded with and love to this day. Since then, we have spent most of our vacation time traveling across America with a QVC crew and you!  Many of our best vacation memories involve our QVC family, and it is such an honor to be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary with you, at the Q, on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th! What a Happy Fourth of July!

Thanks for blessing our lives and creating so many wonderful memories together!

Cheers!
