Join us Thursday for CEW & QVC Present Beauty with Benefits!

When I started my career in cosmetics a decade ago, I had no idea of the effect that makeup had on a person.  The ability to change a look, a feel, an attitude - with just the swipe of a lipstick, the brush of a mascara, and the scent of a fragrance.  What an impact this had on women’s everyday lives!  It was, is, and always will be, an honor to work with you as your beauty advisor and friend.

It is even more of an honor to find out that beauty can go “beyond a brush-stroke” to impact the lives of women in an even more impactful way…through an event called Beauty with Benefits (http://www.cancerandcareers.org/). Cancer and Careers is a program that helps individuals who are suffering from all types of cancer and who are still active in the workplace. Cancer and Careers has many services to help keep people thriving, even if they are in treatment, and also offer counseling services to accommodate questions that may arise if diagnosed.

I got to experience BWB last year for the very first time as a guest during QVC’s live fundraising event.  I witnessed first-hand, the magic of what can happen when a group of individuals comes together for a great cause.  It was a night of wonderful beauty products, impactful stories, and SO much celebration as we raised $984,000 for this organization.

This year I am honored to be part of the event again, but now as your social host. It all happens on April 17th from 8-10pm EST. I encourage you to join us for an evening of amazing stories, great products and a worthy cause.  I will be chatting live with you right here on this blog entry with a career coach from the Cancer and Careers team to help answer your questions during the show!  So start asking your questions below in the comments section, and check back during the show from 8-10pm ET for the answers!

XOXO

Hi Alberti.....you are doing such a great job on QVC. I read your blog and wondered how I could become involved with BWB. I live in Maryland , right outside of DC. I do a lot of volunteer work and would love to add BWB to the list. I have several friends and family members dealing with cancer and feel this organization would be such a terrific addition to their lives. By the way loved the Alterna products you used to bring to the Q.

Hi Alberti, you are such a breath of fresh air to the QVC group. Love you all. Makeup is a unique tool, it sure can make your whole day better. I currently use Josie Maran's Perfect and Protect Tinted Moisturizer however my bottle is almost empty and I cannot find it anywhere. Will the Q please bring it back, just as it is. It is just enough coverage and very kind to fine lines and wrinkles in my 62 year old skin. Help!! You are doing a great job and I look forward to seeing more of you, have a blessed day.

Hi Alberti. I live in the Albany, NY, area and will be graduating as an RN next month. I think this program would be a fantastic ancillary service for area cancer organizations and hospitals, wherever not already present. I'd love more information on this organization. I have loved playing with makeup my entire life, and I so agree with you that a little lift from some good-for-you products can make a huge difference in a person's attitude, confidence, and self-esteem. I'll be watching on Thursday. I would very much welcome becoming a volunteer for Cancer and Careers. Thank you! :)

Hi Alberti, you are so much fun to watch on the Q, such a great addition to the family, can you find out what color lipstick and brand that Tiffany Thiessen, is wearing in the ad for the CEW beauty? Thanks so much

I am a breast cancer survivor and a makeup junkie!! I shopped the event last year and plan to this year. When you have no hair and your skin completely changes due to chemotherapy and radiation I just felt better when I was able to put my face on. Thanks QVC for highlighting such a great cause!{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Hi Debra ,

Great question! You are a good friend. It may well be that your friend doesn't even know what she or he needs. Maybe he/she can use a resume refresh or guidance becoming more comfortable with his or her coworker's reactions to his or her illness. Cancer and Careers has so many resources - teleseminars, coaching advice, written tools about writing resumes, etc. Steer your friend to the website and encourage him/her to scan through to see what all the resources are.

Take care,

Julie

Hi Alberti! Love that you all are doing this wonderful thing! My brother passed away last June. I was his caregiver, and he was the strongest person I've ever known! I am so thrilled to be able to do my small part in helping with this wonderful cause in any way I can. Love you all! I'm gonna keep shopping! Mega Love!

Julie-can you elaborate on what to do if you have a gap on your resume? How to handle that question in an interview if you were not able to work due to illness? Do you say that? Thanks!

How does one deal with being over 60 and looking for work - it seems companies are more apt to hire someone younger and with less experience. It's very frustrating!

Julie:

My husband was diagnosed a year ago with lung cancer. When talking about it with others including people at my workplace a typical question has been "Did he smoke?". What professionally can I say to someone if he/she asks me that question again in the future? I find it to be irritating and insensitive even though I realize the person didn't intend it to be.

Thank you.

What a wonderful event for a great cause. Alberti, you and Jane are doing a wonderful job. I want to thank Mally and Dana B. for sharing their stories.

I have a question for the coach. How does my friend explain a gap in a resume when for nearly one year she was off work caring for her child who had an illness?

Once again, thank you for this terrific event.

As a survivor and still fighting, I want to thank CEW and QVC. I recently underwent chemotherapy, but it had to be stopped because of severe side effects. I would love to still be able to work, but not only do I have cancer I also have heart issues. I think this is a wonderful thing you're doing. There are so many companies out there that really do not appreciate the fact that chemo does cause a lot of issues and trying to work and go for treatments doesn't mean you're trying to shirk your duties. The fact that they are going to work and getting treatments should prove that they are dedicated. I was "retired" from my company, while undergoing chemo and radiation. I hope that this event makes corporations realize that it is harder than anything you may do in your life to endure chemo and radiation treatments and still get yourself up to go to work when all you really want to do is just stay in bed.

Julie, I have been trying to find another job in my line of work, but in another state (where family lives). However, I don't have a professional network there, and with a demanding role in my current full-time job, I'm having a hard time getting anywhere in that job search beyond the occasional interviews from online job board applications. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I have a question, does CEW and Beauty with Benefits give corporations any training in how to deal with employees who have cancer? So that the employee who has cancer isn't let go for missing too much work?

How important is your credit?

I've been applying to jobs and I know my debt to income ratio is a little off. I've been applying for job and landing interviews. I feel the interviews go well but I never get an offer.

I'm just a gal trying to take over the world.
