Yup, it’s March and that means spring should have sprung but instead I’m still wearing my winter jacket. I’m also still suffering from winter hair—dry, damaged, and breaking. So, when it’s time to turn things around for my mane, I head to…the refrigerator. When my locks need a lift, eggs, beer, lemon and handful of other goodies in my refrigerator shelves do wonders.
You know I love me a little oil massaged into my scalp and left in overnight as I describe here, but I’ve got some fresh new ideas for your hair care woes.
Pick Me Up
For all hair types, eggs do wonders. The yolk has plenty of protein and fats that will smooth your strands. Essentially, eggs go to the extra mile for your hair. J
Here’s the breakdown:
Use a whole egg to condition your hair
Yolks only to moisturize wintered, dry locks
Leave on for 15-25 minutes depending on how long you can stand smelling like eggs J rinse with cool water and bask in the shine and luster. Once a month should do the trick.
Best Breakfast
I love yogurt and berries for breakfast with granola. My hair loves yogurt too, just hold the berries and granola. Massage a ½ cup of yogurt (any type you have handy – I usually use low fat plain) into clean damp hair and leave for about 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and then shampoo as you usually do.
Need a Lift?
Beer is not just for ball games. Because of the yeast in this fermented drink, your hair will get lots of plumping up. Just make sure it’s flat! Pour a glass and let it sit for a while, then add a tablespoon of olive oil, plus a raw egg (again!) Put it on clean, damp hair then rinse with cool water after 15 minutes.
Tame the Frizz
It’s no wonder that silky smooth avocado can help reduce frizz caused by crazy weather (think super hot heaters and scary cold winds.) If you can resist eating it, mash it up and massage it into your hair. You can also add raw egg yolks to amp up the moisture. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then say hello to your sleeker mane.
