As Vanessa so kindly introduced me in her farewell blog, I’m Missy. You’re probably missing her as much as I am, but I want to start off on a happy note by telling you how excited I am about getting this opportunity to talk with you about all things beautiful!
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My obsession with beauty began at a fairly young age. My older sister, Rachel, is three years older than me. Naturally, I wanted and tried to be just like her despite our age difference. We both went to a private K-8 school, which meant uniforms. Ours consisted of blouses in the most unflattering shade of yellow; navy and green plaid, pleated skirts; and our choice of navy or green knee socks. What was even worse, though, was not being allowed to wear nail polish or makeup (don’t worry, not in the early years…I’m talking junior high).
When I was in sixth grade, Rachel was a freshman in a public high school, so she finally got to experiment with makeup, nails, hair color…whatever our mom would let her get away with (which wasn’t too much ). Not only was I in mimic mode, but I was jealous! In order to cope with my envy and inherent desire to be just like her, I adopted a very toned-down beauty regimen: clear mascara (does anyone know if that still exists!?), tinted lip gloss, and I might’ve snuck into my mom’s makeup bag for a little blush. What can I say? I was a rebel.
These days, Rachel still inspires my beauty habits and is my go-to gal for makeup-application advice (she has eyes down to an art form). But, I’m proud to say she has started to pick up some tips from me, too. Most recently, I turned her onto philosophy’s miracle worker miraculous anti-aging concentrate.
Speaking of philosophy, I don’t mind waking up early for work because it means I get to luxuriate in the light, bright scents of their fresh and floral shower gel trio. I wake up at 4:30am, so that’s really saying something. I find the lively lemon verbena to be particularly intoxicating. I LOVE lemon zest—not just for its ability to liven up my favorite muffin recipe or an otherwise heavy pasta dish—but for its juicy, fresh scent. philosophy was somehow able to capture it perfectly and turn it into a luscious lather. While I got the set to help me get into the swing of spring, it’ll be just as invigorating all summer and anytime I need to brighten my day.
Are you as ready for summer as I am? What about your beauty arsenal? I still need to stock mine with a few staples, but I couldn’t work at a better place for that! It’s your turn to help me get to know you better. What are your go-to summer beauty essentials?
—Missy
