Friday's Topic on LRS: Pay Attention to Details

by on ‎04-11-2012 05:54 PM

I know you’ve heard the saying “it’s the little things” before. But when it comes to looking your best, it really is the little things—the details—that elevate your look. At New York Fashion Week, we saw entire trends inspired around “little things” like buttons ruffles, beading, embroidery…even jewelry. And there isn’t a reputable fashion magazine out there that hasn’t written feature stories on details like finding the right hairstyle or wearing makeup that highlights your best features.

I think women underestimate the power of details. For example, tailoring. To get that perfect fit, sometimes you have your clothes tailored. I rarely find jeans or a blazer that fit me perfectly. So, it’s worth it to me to pay a small fee to have it tailored. That gives my clothes the appearance that they were custom made, i.e., couture, and in reality, they weren’t. A good tailor can have the work done in a week. And in my honest opinion, it’s better to wait one week to wear an incredible jacket, than to wear an “okay” jacket now and for as long as you own the piece.

Speaking of fit—one of the biggest callouts we’re hearing from you on The Lisa Robertson Show is about finding your perfect QVC fit. While you can always find charts and sizing information on QVC.com, now’s a great time to address this because it’s a detail. And, as you know, details are important. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

To measure your bust, wrap a tape measure under your arms around the fullest part of your bust. Make sure you’re able to take a deep breath while the tape is taught, otherwise your tops may pull or look noticeably too tight. Your waist measurement should be taken at the smallest part of your waistline…right where you’d wear a waist-belt. Again, make sure you can breathe comfortably. Lastly, position the measuring tape about 8-inches below your waist around the fullest part of your hips. Before you order any item, make sure to check the sizing information associated with each garment to see which size you need.

This Friday on The Lisa Robertson Show, I’ll show you what I mean when it comes to all these “little things.” Not only do we have a look called “Note the Details,” which highlights some subtle ruffling and tasteful accessories, but Mally is also bringing us a 24/7 Professional Gel Nail System to make your fingers and toes look finished and fabulous.

See you Friday night at 10pm ET. I hope you'll join us afterwards for Friday Night Beauty at 11pm ET with Kate Somerville and L'Occitane. As always, Gabrielle Kerr can give you an idea of what's coming up on Monday's PM Style in her blog.

See you soon!

Lisa

P.S. Kris Jenner's joining us this Friday with some pieces from her day-to-night "Kollection." {#emotions_dlg.biggrin} Amy had the chance to ask the celebrity-mom and designer about her line and her personal style. Here's what she had to say:
