A Blissful Experience

A few months before I turned 40, I was single and living in New York City, far from family and friends. My boyfriend Jim and I had just broken up. (What a bummer! Sounds like a country song!) Following our breakup, my dear, sweet mom asked how I wanted to celebrate my birthday. A party? Nope, what I really wanted was to spend the weekend with her and my sisters. And I knew exactly where I wanted to go: The Double J Ranch, a dude ranch in Michigan!

We had had so much funriding horses, cooking over the fire, playing games, sunbathing by the pool and chatting as much as possible!

On my birthday, my sisters, knowing how much I adore spa services of any kind, surprised me with a full spa experience. They didn’t take me to a spa—they brought the spa to me!

They turned down the lights, put on soft music, and went to work. Julie gave me a facial, Susie did my nails, and Cindy (who pulled the short straw) gave me a pedicure. It was so hard not to giggle! (FYI: Susie was the biggest offender in the giggle department, but I’m pretty sure I wasn’t far behind.) What fun!

The reason I share this story is because I recently went to the famous Bliss Spa in SoHo to do research for an upcoming show. (It’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it!) I had a massage complete with a paraffin foot wax and their most popular facial, the triple oxygen facial.

It’s been ages since I’ve done anything like that. And it was heavenly! I also I had the opportunity to spend time with Katie Welch, VP of Education and on-air guest for Bliss Spa! What a great teacher she is! It was fun learning about their products & experiencing them firsthand as well.

What’s awesome is that you don’t actually have to go to Bliss Spa to experience Bliss Spa. The very same products they used on me (and not some watered-down version) are available on the Q! Katie will be with me at 1 am ET on Monday, March 19 for the first full hour of Bliss Spa-Inspired Beauty since September to share them with you!  

Just curious: Have you ever treated yourself to a facial or a massage?

P.S. Jim returned to New York a few days before my birthday and asked me to marry him. Needless to say, it was a birthday I will never forget!
