What a Girl Wants…Best Friends of Course!

by on ‎03-07-2012 05:14 PM

It’s one of my favorite times of the year here at the Q because we’re celebrating What a Girl Wants. It’s a full 24 hours where you can just sit back, indulge yourself in beauty, fashion, and everything you love about being a girl. It’s sort of like a holiday dedicated to women…and if any men are around, you just have to put your hand up and say, “Sorry, it’s all about me today.” AND I love those kinds of days!

This year’s theme is “Friendships in Bloom,” and I immediately thought of four of my best friends. I don’t think anyone was more excited for me than my best friends and fellow sorority sisters when I got my dream job at QVC. In fact, there’s not a week that goes by that I don’t talk to them and dish on some kind of beauty product that’s on the Q. So let me introduce you to the ladies…

Liz

If Liz wasn’t so nice and pretty, we wouldn’t be friends (KIDDING!). As you can see, she’s quite the looker at a statuesque 6'2" tall. Her husband is 6'7" and we’re all just waiting for them to have children and for those children to become professional athletes. We met our freshman year at Ole Miss when we discovered both of our boyfriends went to the same out-of-state school. After traveling back and forth together, we built a pretty strong friendship that’s lasted throughout the years. One of my favorite memories with Liz was when she landed her big job at an accounting firm in Atlanta and got to stay at one of the ritziest hotels, Buckhead…I had just graduated at the time, which meant I was moving in during her stay Smiley Happy. One night, I had come down with flu-like symptoms and headed down to the gift shop to get some medicine. Entering the elevator, I began coughing so badly I couldn’t stop. When the elevator door opened, I assumed I was on the main floor and began to exit. With my head down, I ran into a rather large man on the sixth floor and…it was Michael Jordan. Before I could ramble an apology, he said, “Don’t worry about it, I had that last week” and smiled at me. I thought I was going to be sick to my stomach. Once I got off the elevator, I ran into my BFF at the front desk after she was returning home from work at 10pm (I learned right then I never wanted to be an accountant) and she saw me with MJ and turned around and said “What up, MJ!” like they had been friends for years Smiley Happy. That’s one thing I love about her, she’s fearless and never met a stranger.

Favorite product she lives by: At her old accounting firm, she and three other women were obsessed with Josie Maran’s Argan Oil. Hair, nails, skin…they were all over it.

Ashley

I have such a well-rounded group of friends and consider myself incredibly lucky. My next BFF is not only one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met, but she’s exceptionally funny. A Lady and a scholar. Also a fellow sorority sister of mine, Ashley and I became BFF’s my junior year of college. She is one of those people that can make you laugh so hard with her sarcastic sense of humor, you forget what you were originally laughing about. “Arley” as I like to call her, is in her third year of medical school at the University of Mississippi, and is currently dating a really handsome man that looks like a Ken doll. Some girls have all the luck!

The funniest memory I have with Ashley was during college when one of our friends, Callie, went on a date with a guy that she wasn’t really sure she would like. She asked us to pick her up at his house after dinner, which wasn’t a big deal because we were friends with her date as well.  Ashley and I had arrived early, and since the door was open, and he was a mutual friend, we thought we would let ourselves in and touch up our hair and makeup before going out. The funny thing about this house was that because it was a little older, the light switch to the bathroom was on the outside wall instead of the inside. At the time, we didn’t think it was a big deal, turned on the lights, closed the door, and started getting ready. Amidst our getting ready and gossiping, someone turns off the lights and starts banging on the doors. Well, of course we start screaming, they start screaming, we can’t communicate, and now we can’t see to even get out of the bathroom. After about two minutes of “who are you?” “what are you doing here?!” we were finally let out by our friend Callie’s date. He had dropped Callie off at home, returned, and thought someone had broken into his house because all of the lights were on. It was a big laugh…but also very, very awkward.

Ashley’s product to live by: Any cosmetic by tarte and philosophy skin care.

Sally

She is my beautiful Mississippi girl! Not only one of my best friends through college, we’ve been roommates and also traveled the world together. We’ve been to Mexico, the British Virgin Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and our next adventure will be to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico for a week. Can’t wait! Sally is also a really sharp cookie and so well rounded. She just landed her dream job working with a district attorney's office and trial victims' families. She was a criminal justice major in college, and with her very girly sense of style and standing only 5'1’', you would be surprised that field interested her, but she is fascinated and passionate about it.

One of the best memories I have of Sally was her voicemail. Talk about a true Southern belle. On her voicemail, Sally had the sweetest, most innocent voice…like you could hear her smiling. When Sally couldn’t make it to the phone you heard this message in one of the best Southern accents ever, “Heeeyy, this is Sally. I am SOOOO sorry I missed your call, BUT please leave me a message and I will get back to you just as soon as I can.” The first time my mother heard her voicemail she turned and looked at me with a heartfelt smile and said, “Courtney, I can just hear the sadness in her voice on the last half of that message that she couldn’t pick up your call.” Haha—ahhh, Sally. Love her to death. Smiley Happy

Sally’s new favorite products are Mally Beauty. She doesn’t know it yet, but she’s got a few coming her way on our trip to Mexico.

Farah

Talk about beautiful! When we were in college, Farah was crowned “Most Beautiful” at Ole Miss, a school that prides itself on redshirting Miss Americas. Farah is even more beautiful because she dedicates a lot of her time volunteering for those in need in L.A. A social work major in college, if you checked my Facebook in last couple of weeks, she now lives in L.A. and is pursuing acting, and doing an incredible job getting work!

My best memories with Farah are still ongoing. She could carry the smallest purse in the world and yet she’s got the entire world in her purse. Case in point, you could need a toothpick…she’s got a box of them. Band-Aid? Don’t you worry; she’s got assorted colors and sizes. The best are the hair and makeup tools. At any given point of the evening we spend with friends, you can see Farah touching up hair and makeup as if she were running a fully functioning salon from within her handbag. But, the thing I love most about Farah is her wickedly funny and awkward sense of humor. She’s the best to sip a glass of vino with and chat about your day. Did I mention we’ve also run into Colin Firth? We’re working on becoming friends.

Farah’s new favorite product: WEN.

As you can tell, I’m a very lucky girl to have such amazing friends. Tell me about and post pictures of you and your BFF on my Facebook page or here. Most importantly, enjoy What a Girl Wants on QVC. It’s your day, so sit back and relax, and take in all the good. See you soon! Smiley Happy
