Fashion Week & Ole Henriksen

I just got back from New York Fashion Week and I have so much to tell you that it’s hard to know where to begin! Fashion Week is definitely not just about the clothing. There are countless makeup artists and hair stylists who use the runways to create and show new beauty trends. I’m still compiling my notes, so I’ll write about the eye and lip colors I saw in my next blog. In this blog, I want to start at the beginning: Skin is in!

But first, let me go back in time to about four weeks ago. As hosts, we have this thing called a “host commitment schedule.” It’s basically an online calendar where our merchandising team members who want to speak with us can schedule meetings. We set aside our free hours and then it's first come, first serve. Sometimes, I know exactly why I’m having a meeting; other times, I find out the details once I get there. This day, my calendar just said “Ole Henriksen” and a room number. I didn’t know if Ole was a person or just the name of a product line. I walked into the conference room and saw several familiar faces. At the head of the table sat Ole. We exchanged greetings and then he started to tell me about his skin-care line. It took about two seconds to realize this was one of the most charming men I had ever met. He is just so nice! He gave samples of his skin care line to try and I thought, “if these products are as good as Ole himself, I’m going to be in love.”

One month later, I’m officially in love…and it’s okay if you tell my husband because he is in love too! (He might just phrase it a little differently!) This product line is absolutely fantastic! So far, I’ve tried the Ultimate Eye Gel (A223329), the Truth To Go Wipes (A223330) (they do a great job taking off makeup), and the Truth Serum (A220079)(thanks to the ladies on my Facebook page who told me to give it a shot—it really is awesome!). However, my husband and I agree that our favorite product is the Micro Mini Peel Kit (A223327).

Now back to Fashion Week. I knew before leaving for New York that the biggest trend was going to be radiant, bright skin. Good skin is always important, but it seems even more so this year. While there are a lot of great illuminating cosmetics, it helps if you start with a smooth complexion and even skin tone. To get my skin in shape for our QVC shows, I used Ole’s Micro Mini Peel Kit. It's a three-step microdermabrasion and peel system that you can use at home.

Here’s my step-by-step review:

  1. First you rub the Almond Polish into your skin for about a minute. It smells great (sort of like natural almond extract), and although you can feel the grains, it doesn’t feel too abrasive. When I rinsed it away, I felt like it was a treatment in itself. My skin already felt so much cleaner and smoother.

  2. Next, you massage a teaspoon of the Lemon Strip on your face and neck. It's a thick, clear gel. When I put it on, I felt a tingle. My husband was surprised by the feeling because he has never used a peel before. We both agreed that the sensation disappeared after a few seconds.

  3. After leaving the Lemon Strip on for two minutes, you apply the Chamomile Comfort right on top of it. The Chamomile Comfort is white and creamy and feels very nice. This stays on for 20 minutes. Because of the time commitment, you probably don’t want to do this while getting ready to go somewhere. My husband and I put it on and then watched television. You’ve got to love something that forces you to relax!

  4. Rinse it off, follow with your serums and/or moisturizers, and be amazed!

After using the kit one time, my skin looks so much better and brighter. My pores, fine lines, and wrinkles even look smaller. I can’t stop touching my face. It is so much softer! I’ve also noticed my makeup goes on better. Even our makeup artist at Fashion Week mentioned that my complexion looked great, and he would know because he works on my skin all the time. However, I was most convinced by my husband’s reaction. He actually used it again just last night! Normally, he doesn’t even look at, let alone use, my cabinet full of skin care. When he said, “Where’s that Ole stuff?” I knew we had a winner!

I have an hour show with Ole (pronounced Oh-Laa as in Oh La-La) on Wednesday, February 15 at 8pm ET. I hope you can join us! In the meantime, I would love it if you joined the Ole discussion on my Facebook page or shared your thoughts here. Happy exfoliating!
