Winding Down After the Holidays

by on ‎01-05-2012 12:37 PM

Hi, everybody! How were your holidays? Mine were wonderful, but exhausting at the same time. I had Christmas weekend off but it was filled with travel, parties, playing with the nieces, and eating too much food. By the time we got home late Sunday night, it was tough rising on Monday morning. I had to get up early that day to hit the gym, but I don't know why I bothered since my family came up the Tuesday after Christmas and my mom brought every leftover dessert with her. Which means I ate every leftover dessert she brought with her!

My favorite desserts were these bars that I made (that sounds conceited but I liked them best!). It starts with a layer of oatmeal cookie dough, topped with crushed pecans and chocolate chips. Drizzle melted caramel on top and then crumble another layer of the oatmeal cookie dough on top. YUM! For some reason, when I bake I feel the need to eat all that is prepared because I'm aware of all the time, ingredients, and effort that went into making the dish. Maybe next year I should not be in charge of the dessert category! I should be in charge of the veggie category and then I will feel the need to eat all the brussels sprouts. LOL!

What about you? Did you travel? Did you entertain? Did you relax? Did you get everything you wanted? Steve and I didn't exchange gifts for Christmas. We don't usually give each other gifts; instead we pick a way to spend our money that will benefit both of us and call that our gift. This year it will be a weekend in New York. Last year, it was paying off the last of our college loans ahead of schedule and next year we are already hoping it will be a furniture purchase, because we are hoping to buy our first home this year! Kind of crazy that one year has just finished up and I already know what I want the end of next year to look like.

I guess you could call that my New Year's resolution. For some, a resolution may be to stop doing something or to start doing something, but for me it's more of a "place" where I'd like to see my life within another year's time. A house is certainly in the picture, but with a house comes more space and with more space comes more bedrooms, maybe even more than one bath, and all that adds up to having room for another person if you catch my drift…so maybe by the end of 2012 a house and a ^$%$ (I can't say that four-letter word just yet, it makes me nervous) will be in order.

For now, I'm just looking forward to getting back to my routine. I'm a creature that thrives on normalcy. Our schedules change depending on the week here at QVC but for the most part I know what's going on in my life and that's how I like it. Don't get me wrong: the holidays were lovely and to be with my family means so much to me. But I stayed up too late several nights, drank and ate too much for weeks, and to add another complaint, my skin is starting to get affected from this cold weather. Basically, I'm just starting to feel gross and I don't like it! So I'm going back to taking care of myself and my home. I put shopping, baking, Christmas card writing, decorating, and parties before cleaning, laundry, ironing, working out, grocery store shopping, and sleep and I'm ready to be responsible again. Watch out dust bunnies, I'm coming for you!

As far as QVC goes and what that will bring for me this new year I do have a few things I want to tell you. First, the good news. You may just find yourself watching me in the middle of the afternoon more and the middle of the night less. I have lots of opportunities to do shows that start anywhere from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET. If you are a night owl, that doesn't mean we won't get to hang out, it just means that I'll be scattered all over the schedule so you'll never know when I'll be shopping with you. The other thing I have to tell you starts off kind of sad but hopefully will turn into a very good thing. Starting in February I will no longer be your social host for PM Style. I know, I'm very sad about it too because I truly feel that I've gotten to know so many of you on Monday night and have become a part of the show. However there is a very exciting reason why I'm leaving, and that is to be the correspondent for Lisa Robertson's new show, The Lisa Robertson Show! The first season starts February 3. The show will air Friday nights at 10 p.m. ET and as her correspondent I get to do a bit of traveling (hello, New York Fashion Week!), interviewing, and some fun Facebook time with you. I will miss our Mondays, but it's not as heartbreaking now that I know we will have Fridays together. Hope you can watch!

I'll still do a regular blog so please check back to find out what else is going on. As always, I'll keep you posted on the life, the Q, and my random thoughts that happen to pop in my head when I sit down to write to you. No such thing as writer's block here — more like writer's randomness (I just made that up). Hope you have a wonderful start to the new year. Take a minute to do a big inhale and exhale and get back to the ahhhh!

Happy new year,

—Amy
