Valentine's Dinner, Ombre Nails + Radiant Orchid Makeup

Weekend Recap:

I don’t have to tell you that we were snowed in again at the Q.  Man, we are getting killed up here!  It was a long week of staying cooped up in hotels and my house, but I’m glad to see some Sunshine today, and it seems like the fur babies are too.  Even though all of our animals are indoors, they all seem to be crowding into the same sunny spots of the house… BRING ON SPRING ALREADY!!

#Dinnerfor2

Since it was Valentine’s Day and I hadn't seen Aaron in 3 days because of our schedules, we trucked through the snow and went to our favorite seafood restaurant to grab a cocktail and our favorite raw bar dinner plate.  I love the simplicity in flavors but then I also love being able to experience new flavors through sauces and condiments.  It was a nice way to end the weekend, but even nicer on Sunday to curl up to fresh chicken noodle soup, hummus, and a movie.  I used to think I needed to end the week with a special dinner to get us excited to start a new week but for now, I’m really enjoying the simple life when it comes to dinner {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}.

Red Carpet Style:

Just in case you missed it on my facebook page, here is a sneak peak of a nail collection coming up from Julep during our week in LA.  I used these two colors to create and Ombre effect and I am totally in love!

Bare Minerals: True Romantic Eye and Cheek Collection A251994

When Pantone announced that this year’s color was Radiant Orchid, I could not have been more excited.  With the last couple of years dedicated to Emerald and Tangerine Tango, it was refreshing to see Radiant Orchid in the lineup because of the volumes that it will speak to femininity.  What is it about this color that we have fallen in love with so quickly? To me, it’s a color that will look beautiful on everyone, but it’s so much more than that.  To quote Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, she says “People associate purple with creativity and originality- and those are very valued today.” I think that speaks volumes as to why we as women need to get this color into our wardrobe.  While I believe that radiant orchid is that no brainer, must-have… our wardrobe doesn’t need to entirely be made of us this color; we need balance. Maybe it’s one dedicated to our wardrobe, the next it’s our makeup.   So let’s start with makeup.

I chose the True Romantic collection from Bare Minerals because I felt like it was the perfect complement to Orchid.  It’s a soft feminine collection that doesn’t speak too loudly, yet beings home a refreshing color palette that pairs nicely with the orchid color tones.  Take for instance the eyeshadow quad.  The mint and apricot colors are a lighthearted duo that are sure to perk up those eyes without you having to do much work.  You can intensify the look with the taupe color “Head over Heels” to make it appropriate for every occasion.  Since radiant orchid is a little bit of a tropical idea, I love that the final color is a sultry sunset color called “Louder.”  This will be perfect color to draw attention to your eyes because of that one of a kind shimmer and shine.  This is where I think the title “true romantic” really comes into play {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}.  The brand new eyeliner in Charcoal is a nice way to define the eye without anyone noticing.  Why is that important?  Your eyes will appear more open and awake without the tale-tale signs of a defined eye.  People always notice a black liner, but they don’t always notice a charcoal one which you will get all of the benefits from.

The blush is a nice compliment to the collection because a) it gives you the perfect balance to your eyes without taking over and b) is that “swoon” worthy color that’s perfect all year round, no matter how light or dark you get.

That’s my take on Orchid and how to get the most out of it with your makeup routine- what do you think?!  Here is a collection of Orchid-inspired makeup that I put together just for YOU.  I hope you enjoy it {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}.
