What’s in a Clarks’ name?

Amy Oselkin and Dylan Maxwell

As a new mom, choosing my son’s name was a tough decision. My husband and I obsessed over various options for months and ultimately selected Dylan Maxwell because Dylan is original and Maxwell honors important members of both our families. Coincidentally, at Clarks, we too take time to name our shoes, which in a way, we also consider our babies. After all, we develop every aspect of our shoes in house, from the design, to the last, to the outsole.

Like my son, Clarks’ shoes have two names. The first name refers to the outsole, and the second name refers to the upper. For example, you might hear Jane Treacy talking about the Lexi Marigold sandal.  “Lexi” describes the lightweight EVA bottom and “Marigold” stands for the gladiator designed style. QVC shares the complete name of each Clarks’ shoe so you can find various looks all on the same construction. If you fall in love with a particular bottom, like “Lexi” or her little sister “Leisa,” just go to QVC.com and do a search for Clarks Lexi or Clarks Leisa. All our styles with those bottoms will pop up. My personal favorite in the “Lexi” family is Lexi Walnut because of the lightweight construction, triple adjustability and feminine bow adorned t-strap upper.  I’m also a fan of Leisa Apple because of its 1.5 inch heel height and boho-chic aesthetic.

Interestingly, both the first and last name of all our shoes must be checked by the legal teams in America and the UK to make sure they aren’t trademarked by other companies. Fingers crossed, we will be coming out with Lexi Jane or Leisa Treacy very soon in honor of Dylan Maxwell’s QVC Grandma! Feel free to reach out to me on facebook.com/Clarksforqvc, if you’d like to hear more about Clarks and how we name our shoes.

Stay Stylish,

Amy
