How to Become a ""Birkologist""

I'm so glad you hung in there and really learned to love the footbed of the Birki's and Papillio brands! Everybody's feet are different, and one of the great things about these clogs and sandals is that over time, they mold to your individual foot. Having that support underneath your arches also supports the stress you put on your knees, back, and hips as well. I sent a pair to my stepfather after he had a knee replacement and he really notices a difference when he forgets to wear his Birki's when he's out and about. You also brought up a great point about the "break-in" period when you get your first pair! Here's what everyone should do…

  • Before putting them on, FLEX both shoes right where the ball of your foot is. This puts a couple days' wear in the footbed so they are easier to walk in.

  • The proper way they should fit is that when your foot is all the way back in the heel cup, your toes should be 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch from the end of the footbed.

  • The clogs and sandals are made to be worn loosely, so when adjusting the buckles, you should be able to slide your fingers easily between the straps and your feet.

  • Because they are so contoured some people may not be used to that much support underneath their feet. Walk around in them for a couple of days for a few hours so your feet get accustomed to that great supportive footbed.

Hey! Now you're what I like to call an official "Birkologist!"

The Birki's and Papillio are available in really fun colors, textures, and looks so I know you will find a few pairs to add to your collection.

Claudia just had a beautiful baby girl, Lola, on February 3. Mother and daughter are fantastic and say hello to everyone. I'm so honored to be filling in for the next couple of shows and really looking forward to February 23.
