10 Delicious Dessert Recipes for the Holiday Season

by on ‎12-12-2013 06:05 PM

Hello, foodies…

In Tuesday’s blog I shared my top 10 stocking stuffer ideas for the holiday season and here are my favorite holiday dessert recipes. We've compiled quite a collection after five holiday seasons of In the Kitchen with David. You can find all 10 on my recipe page on QVC.com. And, you can find this handy list on my Pinterest page in a sharable, oh-so-accessible board. Here’s the pin to look for!

And now, a little about each decadent treat:

Pizzelles

Pizzelles
This was the first recipe we made this month to celebrate Italy and “Christmas Around the World” on In the Kitchen with David. They’re crispy, almond-flavored, and are one of the prettiest cookies I’ve ever seen. Put these on a plain white plate and they’ll steal the spotlight at any dessert table.

Crunchy Buckeyes

Crunchy Buckeyes
I’m pretty sure Santa’s not picky…I mean cookies are cookies! They’re all delicious. But, if you want to land a permanent spot on Santa’s good list, make him these Buckeyes. They’re a chocolate peanut-butter-lovers dream…a bite-size piece of heaven.

Plum Cake

Plum Cake
This elegant and simple cake transforms plums into candied bites of holiday joy. You can use fresh plums, canned plums, or even peaches if you can’t find either! With fresh fruit, be sure to add 1 tsp cinnamon and 3 Tbsp sugar to the halved, pitted pieces. And, increase the baking time to 60-70 minutes.

Pumpkin Roll with Spiced Cream Cheese Filling

Pumpkin Roll with Spiced Cream Cheese Filling
This is a classic recipe, but the spiced cream cheese filling is totally original and absolutely divine. If you don’t have a kitchen towel big enough for rolling the cake, a cotton pillowcase is the perfect size!

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Sticky Toffee Pudding
This British Classic is a Christmastime staple across the pond and no two recipes are the same. It’s kind of like an American version of trifle—there’s no wrong way to make one! This is the version we came up with for ITKWD and I think you’ll love it. But, feel free to experiment by adding vanilla extract or orange zest.

Candy Cane Cannolis

Candy Cane Cannolis
Making homemade cannoli is an all-day affair, so we simplified this recipe by using pre-made shells. If you’re in the spirit to bake, however, use my Pizzelle recipe to make the cannoli shells. You can roll them into shape when they’re still warm.

Frosted Mint Chocolate Chip Brownies

Frosted Mint Chocolate Chip Brownies
If you need a dessert in a hurry for tomorrow’s pot luck or Saturday’s Christmas party, these brownies can be ready in an hour and you probably have all the ingredients right in your pantry. If you don’t have Andes or peppermints, you can always crush up candy canes and sprinkle them over the frosting. It’ll look beautiful!

Dark Chocolate Coconut Macaroons
We created this recipe last December and it quickly came an ITKWD team favorite. After dipping them in chocolate, be sure to let them sit and harden for at least several hours. That way, when you store them, the chocolate won’t make your other cookies—not to mention your pretty decorative plate—get messy.

Spice Cake with Rum-Flavored Whipped Cream

Spice Cake with Rum-Flavored Whipped Cream
Spice cake is one of those desserts that is perfect for the entire holiday season…it’s not specifically fall and not specifically winter. It’s robust, warm, and comforting and the rum-flavored frosting makes it extra special, not to mention extra festive.

Sugar Cookie Cutouts

Sugar Cookie Cutouts
These cookies have all the flavor of classic sugar cookies, but they’re softer, have a smoother texture, and are easier to make. Decorate, as usual, just before baking. If your cookies lose their shape after baking, re-cut them with your cookie cutter.

Happy baking, foodies...as always, keep it flavorful!
