As I have shared before, I am an Army Brat. It is easiest to describe my “growing up” in thirds.  A third of my life was in the Northeast of the U.S, a third of my life was in the Southeast of the U.S. and a third of my life was in Germany. It has made me an eclectic eater, for sure! But I am pretty out of the box, so would you expect anything less??

I feel like living in the South gave me my deep love for fresh fruit and veggies. The Southeast has many great things going for it, for sure. They also have great sunlight and great dirt! It is just the perfect formula for delicious produce. Fresh peaches just melt the day away!

I then feel like living up North has contributed to my love of casseroles. I do love a one-pot wonder when the weather cools down and if you put potatoes and cheese together, we might be best friends.

Living in Germany while I was growing up gave me my absolute love of ALL baked goods! Cake, cookies, pies, pastries, doughnuts – you name it. I was IN THERE. We were so lucky to live in so many beautiful German towns that were filled with delightful Mom-and-Pop bakeries (called “konditorei” in German). There you could find a warm family and a cozy spot where you could enjoy anything your little, sweet heart desired. One of my favs? Chocolate. NOBODY does chocolate like Germany!

As you may have heard on ITKWD or read on my Facebook page, I choose to eat gluten free, but it has not always been that way! I have learned a LOT so far and would love to know: what gluten free baking recipes do you want to see?  Sugar cookies? Macaroons? Chocolate Brownies? I sure would love to help! Please let me know by responding here or to my Facebook page and I will post a requested recipe in my next blog! Happy cooking and thank you, as always, for sharing.

All the best! ~ Mary QVC
