The Wishful Dish is Heading Straight Into Summer!

Last Reply by busyworkingmomof2 1371600714.683 | in Kitchen & Food Talk, Recipe Swap, Hosts & Personalities

With Father's Day around the corner, I wanted to make sure that some items would get there on time for the big day.  The Wishful Dish is always on Mondays at 5pm, so if it's frozen, it will get there by Friday (and that means Father's Day!).    My Friday Night Meal also makes a great Father's Day gift.  Who doesn't like steakburgers from Kansas City Steak Company?  Well, the burgers are really easy to prepare, and I wanted a great side dish to go with it.  So, this week I asked Greg Shockley, from Kansas City Steak Company to share one of his favorite sides to g... TQIF - Memorial Day with the Margaritaville!

While Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer for most, in my home it is the kick off to cookout season!  That means burgers and hotdogs, steamed crabs and daiquiris!  So this Memorial Day we fired up the grill, invited over some family and dusted off the Margaritaville.  Th... Last Reply by queenofreturns 1369179461.01 | in Kitchen & Food Talk, Recipe Swap, Hosts & Personalities

With Memorial Day right around the corner, the grill is definitely on my mind.  I think the number one food for the grill has to be the burger.  But how do we take a burger from average to amazing?   First, we skip the hamburger, and go right the steakburger.  Kansas City Steak Company makes the tastiest burgers in the biz and because they are made from steak trimmings, they are more juicy and flavorful than you can imagine. So, by themselves, they are delicious, but if you really want to kick it up a notch, add a condiment.  Now I don't mean ketchup or mustard, but a... Continue Reading

This one is right around Mother's Day, and I wanted to have a meal that made the whole family happy.  My Friday Night Meal this week is from Corky's, and will put a smile on everyone's face!  You may get a little messy, but that just means you are doing it right, and brings everyone closer.  You get 5 pounds of rib racks, and 2 full pounds of pulled pork.  That's a lot of barbecue!  Since The Wishful Dish airs on Mondays at 5pm, anything frozen will get there by Friday.  So, when you are tired of making it all come together for the week, I come to the rescue with... A lot has changed in the kitchen since the days my Grandma Metzger would whip up a batch of her homemade rolls or bake up one of her delicious pies.  Refrigerators have doubled in size, ovens now have convection, bakeware is non stick, and spatulas are made out of silicone.  What hasn't changed in all that time however is the Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer.  Industrial in design but chic in all of its colors, the Kitchen Aid mixer is a prize in any home kitchen.  I started wanting one when I was a teenager!  I would see it in the homes of my friends, whose Moms always seemed ... Happy holidays! In one of my recent blogs, I mentioned a white chocolate bread pudding that I make for Christmas Day. Some of you asked me to share it, so here it is. The crowning touch is the white chocolate sauce, which adds to the decadence (I use Ghirardelli chocolate). I bake and serve the pudding in either a Temp-tations® two-quart square baker  or Rachael Ray’s Bubble & Brown Ramekins. I prepare both the pudding and sauce earlier in the day. Good Afternoon fellow foodie folks! Foodie Friend Colleen here and I figured I'd drop a line to share a nice twist on David's recent Chocolate Hazelnut No-Bake cookies. While I am a foodie through and through I am Gluten-Free and find that sometimes it's a little harder for me to enjoy a recipe or two without making some tweaks.  For those not familiar with gluten and the gluten-free diet I'll give a quick explanation. Mother’s Chicken Pot Pie Recipe!

Mom’s chicken pot pie is one my husband’s favorite dinners.  His idea of pot pie and mine are not the same.  He grew up in central Pennsylvania, where pot pie is more like a stew/soup.  No top pastry, no creamy sauce inside…instead the recipe calls for square noodles (which are called pot pie) chicken and for some reason a hardboiled egg.  At times, I’ve found that recipes that have been passed down may need some tweaking, intuition, translation, or in this case, luck. Last Reply by cupper 1356906737.77 | in Kitchen & Food Talk, Recipe Swap, Hosts & Personalities

It's January. The holidays are over. It's cold outside (and slushy here in Philadelphia). I'm already sick and tired of wearing a heavy winter coat, but I've got months of that coat ahead of me. What can make us all feel better? How about some glorious smells and delicious bites from the kitchen? That always works for me! This week, QVC is giving all of us food lovers a special treat—a full 24 hours of all things FOOD! QVC usually holds their 24-hour cooking events in March and October, so this extra January event is indeed special. I'm thinking of it as a late Christmas gift.   W... Continue Reading

New Year’s Rib-solution

Hi there! It’s hard to believe we are already 12 years into the new millennium! It seems like yesterday we were celebrating the coming of the year 2000. Remember the big Y2K scare, when computers were supposed to stop working causing infrastructure to come to a screeching halt? The doomsayers predicted that ATMs and public utilities would be impacted and suggested, among other things, that we take money out of the bank and fill our tubs with water. I didn’t take my money out of the bank (well, not all of it, anyway), but before going out on December 31, 1999, I did fill the batht... Continue Reading

Christmas with the Wardens

Last Reply by farr 1330202031.47 | in Kitchen & Food Talk, Recipe Swap, Hosts & Personalities

I've just returned from Utah where I shared the most wonderful Christmas with my four sons, their wives, and my seven grandchildren. It was “most” wonderful because of the news that Abigail, my son Joe’s wife, is going to have twin girls in May, and Susan, my son Mike’s wife, is having their fourth child, another girl, also in May. Next year there will be three more young Warden ladies at our Christmas dinner.    The holidays with the Wardens are always fun, because everyone loves to cook. We actually had to sign up for specific cooking duties this yea... We’re off and running with lots of exciting things already happening this year. I thought a fun way to celebrate 2012 with you would be to share 12 tricks and tips for your prep and entertaining, one for each month. My tip for January is to remove your existing teapot from your stove and sell it at your next garage sale. Seriously! You’ll never look back if you get the 8-cup stainless steel multi-pot with straining lid (K4799), which is featured on my Kitchen Innovations show, January 11 from 5 - 6 p.m. ET.   When you get your multi-pot home, leave it right on your s... Christmas and Mom’s Apple Pie

Hi there! It’s hard to believe another Christmas is nearly upon us! Every year it seems to come sooner than the last, and by December 26 I’m ready to take the decorations down! My friend Valerie Parr Hill has a good suggestion for decorating (which she shared in the November InsideQ): “Spread it over a few weeks; that way it’s less daunting and you have more time to enjoy your decorations before they have to come down again.” This is a great idea for taking the decorations down as well. I think this year, rather than trying to do it all in one day, I’ll sta... Continue Reading
