Cooking on Q-Spring Edition is this Sunday! Guess Who's Joining Us?

Posted by David Venable QVC 1332539842.3
Hello, foodies…

Cooking on QSpring Edition kicks off this Sunday! Not only does QVC have a full day of kitchen programming planned to prepare you for your upcoming celebrations, but I'll be joining you for a four-hour In the Kitchen with David at Noon ET! Of course we're continuing our spring entertaining series with a focus on sides. And we're also welcoming two very familiar facesone, we're always thrilled to have on QVC, Rachael Ray, who has an incredible TSV, and the second is a Food Network star so many of you know and love…Giada DeLaurentiis! What an exciting show we have in store!

Along with hosting her own show, Giada is a wife, mom, and best-selling cookbook author. And we're featuring her new title, Weeknights with Giada (F09764) in "Cookbook Corner" this week. Giada's title contains 102 quick and simple recipes to revamp dinner, including Creamy Cauliflower Soup with Bacon, Toasted Ciabatta with Shrimp Tarragon & Arugula, Turkey & Pancetta Pot Pies, and Apricot Oat Bars! These recipes are deliciously different and exactly the kinds of dishes that will entice your family to run to the dinner table each night. Weeknights with Giada ships to you March 27. I can't wait for you to meet her!

"David's Recipe" this Sunday is very much like some of the traditional sides you might serve at your holiday table…with a twist. We're making my Sweet & Savory Bread Pudding in Rachael Ray's 4-qt. baking dish from her 10-piece Bubble & Brown TSV set (K36303). This dish has the sweet flavors you know and love at Easter, like sweet potatoes and pineapple, but we've added a savory flavor with coriander, sage, and a few other spices. You won't believe the difference a few little spices can make. Give this a shot…it'll certainly be the talk of your holiday table! The recipe, as always, is posted on QVC.com.

"Food for Thought" this week is something special…after all, we do have a special show in store! Lots of you told me how much you like my menu suggestions, so here's a springtime menu that's perfect for Easter and other special occasions. You can pick up the Smithfield Ham and Turkey on QVC.com (M26285). Look for the remaining recipes in David's Recipes on QVC.com

Your blog question this week foryour Easter menu…specifically the sides. What are your family's favorites? Do you make green bean casserole, candied sweet potatoes, or asparagus? Or, do you make something a little more unusuallike my bread pudding? I love reading your comments…please don't hesitate to respond. Also, a Cooking on Q preview begins tomorrow on QVC.com. Shop early so you're sure to get what you want!

Keep it flavorful!
David

P.S. Speaking of sides (and more unusual dishes), our friend Grace Parisi, senior recipe developer at FOOD & WINE magazine, has a delicious recipe for Chipotle-Garlic Edamame. (Need some help with that title? Say it with me: chip-oat-lay, garlic, ed-ah-mom-may.) Besides asking Grace to say the name out loud a few times for me, I asked her how to make this, start to finish. We used the 6-qt covered stockpot and 3-qt sauté pan from the Technique 10-piece cookware set (K28706). Our handy slotted spoon was from Lori Greiner's five-piece no mess set (H17980).

Hi David: Love your show. My favorite Easter side dish is Scalloped Pineapple, which goes extremely well when served with ham or ham loaf. It is very easy to make: Mix together 1 stick of melted margarine, 1 cup sugar, 2 beaten eggs, 2 cups of soft bread cubes, and a 20 ounce can of crushed pineapple. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes in an ungreased casserole dish. Hope you try this and will enjoy it! Joe Nohl (Morton, IL)

David, two of my favorite Easter Sunday side dishes are brocoli rice casserole and potato salad. I also make pineapple upside down rolls (quick and easy with canned biscuits.) Your show is getting me in the Spring and Easter mode! You are like family. Joy Roney

Favorite Easter Side Dish - Garlic Asparagus

Never leftovers for this side dish. My daughter usually eats half of it. Love you show David {#emotions_dlg.wub}

1 - 14oz chicken broth

3 TBSP Olive Oil

12 garlic cloves peeled & cut in half

1 1/2 LB asparagus trimmed (I prefer thin)

course salt & ground pepper

grated or twists of lemon peel (optional)

In a large skillet, bring the broth, oil, salt, pepper & garlic to a boil. Add asparagus and cook until tender-crisp (around 5 minutes). Remove the asparagus with a slotted spoon to a platter; keep warm. Rasie the heat if necessary and cook the rest of ingredients until syrupy & reduced. Pour over the asparagus. Sprinkle with lemon garnish.

Yum Yum & healthy !!{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

We'll have the Kansas City Ham - soooo good!! and I have to share the Best Ever Potato Salad at this link. It lives up to the name {#emotions_dlg.lol}http://www.browneyedbaker.com/2011/04/18/best-ever-potato-salad-recipe/

David and QVC - GREAT SUNDAY - Spring Food & Cooking Day - Love, Love.

I have two favorites for Spring Easter Dinner side dishes. One is my spring Spinach Salad with pecans/strawberries or other berries/boiled eggs/thinly sliced red onion/crumbled bacon and a warm bacon/poppy salad dressing.

2nd is a yellow mustard southern potato salad. Goes wonderfully well with an Easter Ham or a Sunday's Best Roast Chicken.

Gonna make the ham or chicken in my new Rachel Ray Big Baker set/Brown and Bubble. Love love love that TSV set.

Hi David!

For every holiday broccoli cheese rice casserole is a must at our house. Something new I have tried is Paula Deen's recipe for pineapple casserole.. It is delicious with ham. And croissants top it off.

Happy Easter!

{#emotions_dlg.tt1} I love my spicy horseradish mashed potatoes. They go great with my chipotle ham.

Hello David...I'm very late responding to this blog, but better late than never right?! My favorite side dish for any big meal is my Mom's stuffing! She makes it homemade and it is the best I have ever had! She also makes sweet potatoes, asparagus, mashed potatoes, and so much more. I enjoyed the big 4 hour show on Sunday and am looking forward to the 3 hour show this Wednesday. I always try to be in the chat with Mary and the foodies...always a good time! :)
