QVC Fashion Models Have the Right Stuff

Hi, there!

Anyone who thinks modeling is easy should try it sometime. Sure, it looks like all models have to do is pose and look pretty, but it’s not as easy as they make it seem. I’m not a model (obviously!), but many years ago as a tall, slim youth with a 27-inch waist, everyone used to tell me I could be one. So I trekked to Philadelphia with a friend for an “interview” at a well-known modeling school. During this interview my fingernails were inspected (and deemed “needs help”) and I was asked to walk up and down a hall. What could be easier than walking, right? Wrong! Needless to say, I didn’t have the “right stuff” and went back to my job waiting tables. The only good thing to come out of the experience was lunch in the Versailles Room at the Bellvue Stratford Hotel.

It wasn’t until I needed to get a new headshot done for the August InsideQ that I got a small taste of how difficult being in front of the camera can be. It’s not easy to relax and smile with a photographer, stylist, makeup artist and art director watching. After several lighting and background changes I looked at all the digital shots and chose one I was comfortable with.

While all this was going on, Casandra arrived to model fashion for the August issue. Thin as a rail and pretty as a picture, she was right at home in front of the camera (you can see her on page 31 and throughout the August issue). I had the opportunity to speak with her between takes and asked her what the hardest thing about modeling is. “The most difficult thing is remembering that it’s just about looking, feeling and being natural,” she confided. “Forgetting that you’re in front of a camera or on a runway and instead just feeling confident, remaining in touch with your body and moving the way you would naturally move.” She made is it sound so easy!

I also found out Casandra has traveled extensively and recently returned from China. “I think one of the most amazing things about traveling is enjoying, learning about and actually taking part in the culture of the country you’re visiting, including language, customs and cuisine. I felt compelled and blessed to enjoy every minute of it. I ate jelly fish, hippopotamus and Asian worms!” Talk about a model’s diet!

So, if you could ask one of our models a question, what would it be?
