When I tell the story of how my husband Dan and I met, I usually mention he was living in a boat. What good California girl could resist a guy with a house on the water? In the next seven months before he proposed, I fell in love with his love of the water, his humor, his dancing, his hair… but what really sealed the deal for me was the way he cooked.
I don’t really cook…like really at all. I can make brownies from a box; an important skill, but not really a skill right?
So when Dan confessed his love for cooking my basic instincts kicked in and I snatched... Continue Reading

We are definitely an iPad family. We're careful about what we let the girls use it for, and for how long, but I have to say, it's been a very welcome technology addition to our home. Today's Special Value, the 16GB iPad, is just that...a huge value opportunity for those who want to bring an iPad home, for WAY less. Husbands, wives, kids, grandparents, grandkids...it's really a gift for everyone and everyone has their own favorite ways to use it!
My in-laws gave my girls their old iPad when they upgraded, so that the kids had an iPad to play games on and watch movies on…when they were... Continue Reading

We live in a tiny farm house built in 1800. It's like a 1500 sq ft dollhouse; low ceilings and small rooms spread out on three floors. But it is cozy and has charm. The kitchen leads to the dining room leads to the living room. All in a horse shoe around my favorite space: the big outdoor patio and yard. We've never had land or property, and it is quite peaceful and freeing. Since the home is small my girls share a room, and we are all in close quarters. But it's a cheery, beachy home on the inside that really reflects what's most important to me... Family. I will always consider myself a Cali... Continue Reading

I’m living in this moment...or so I keep reminding myself. It’s taken me 36 years of constant worrying about tomorrow to get to a point where I’m not even thinking about tomorrow. Well actually, it took my baby going to kindergarten to get me to stop focusing on the next sunrise and just bask in this one.
You all told me when we adopted Grace and when I got pregnant with Georgia that we needed to cherish every moment because they grow so fast.
I did, and they did.
But as a mom of practically twin babies, at the time, there is a lot of worrying about them. Wond... Continue Reading

If you follow me or Rachel Boesing on Facebook, then you know we walk a lot. This wonderful part of my life began after Rachel decided to help me train for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer walk.
When training for the event, I have to walk as much as 17 miles a day and that can be so long, exhausting and boring. Rachel jumped on board to help me train. Not only did this help me train and get ready for the long walk, but it did wonders for my head and heart. Rachael and I talk and laugh for hours on these walks. It's like therapy, and part of the reason I love the actual event eac... Continue Reading

I’m trying to relax more.
Even just writing that makes me anxious. I’m not a person who can easily sit still. Like at all. Ever. But, I need too. I used to teach yoga and be a major devotee. I loved the studios I studied in when we lived in Southern California but since the move east and QVC and crazy toddlers, I haven’t found the same time and space to get my flow on. In the past few years I’ve stepped up my steps; running and walking more and incorporated HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) with P90X, Insanity and T-25. I love the workouts, they are q... I’m sitting back and listening to a conversation at lunch. Usually I’m the one talking, but no one here knows one another, so I am enjoying the sound of something other than my own voice. The brunette to my left is reliving the weeks after her premature boys were born and the desperation and loneliness she felt as the doctors piled on bad news. It takes her all of 30 seconds to get to the point, which is, she went to the internet and mommy blogs in order to find other parents like her who could give her hope and make her feel like she wasn’t alone.
I start crying int... Continue Reading

My kids are losing their minds! Granted they are four and five years old so that’s not a new thing in our home, but right now they are planted in front of the television watching Nancy Hornbeck sing, "Let It Go", singing a chorus of “I want it now!!!” right along with her.
Grace & Georgia are used to seeing mommy on TV. As infants they watched me, swaddled in their daddy’s arms, early in the morning, while I delivered the morning weather for ABC news. Now they occasionally catch me on Q check or Saturday Morning Q when I’m on QVC. It’s... Continue Reading

There’s my dad who gave me life,
and another who helped raise me.
There’s my uncle who became more like a father when he stepped in and became one to me more than thirty years ago.
And there is the daddy who I gave that title when I placed our baby girl in his arms five years ago this week.
Dad’s day for me, has never been simple.
A child of divorce, I have learned over the years to see the good that came out of that sad ending of a family. I've had two men to influence my life at different times growing up, and two to love me.
Two men ... Continue Reading

I had the most fabulous, funny, loving and well-dressed roommate for seven months.
My cousin Katie moved into our house in October after leaving the family on the west coast and moving to this foreign land of Pennsylvania for a job in beauty at QVC. Katie and I weren’t close before. She is really a second cousin or a first cousin twice removed or some odd familial algorithm no one can even really figure out. But, family is family and I knew from my aunt and uncle (also her aunt and uncle, not her mom and dad, can someone tell me what that makes her to me?... Continue Reading
