My youngest daughter, Kelsey, who is now a senior in college, has always been very determined and persistent. She also loves animals. When she turned eleven, she started asking me if we could get a puppy. We had two cats at the time and I thought that was enough. Kelsey didn’t give up. She proceeded to ask and then beg me every day. After a couple months, she started writing me letters outlining all the reasons why we needed a puppy and promising me that she would take great care of him or her. She did this almost every day for a year.
I finally... Continue Reading

As a young boy growing up in St. Joe, Michigan, I loved to go down to the lake and sit at the foot of the lighthouse on the north pier to watch the sunset. It was there that I would dream about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I dreamed that I would be many things; a baseball player, a musician, an actor or maybe a preacher. Whatever it was, I knew that God had a plan but as I turn 60 and take a look back, I have to admit that my life has been better than any of those childhood dreams. I am beyond thankful for it all.
Reflecting on the past 26 years that I have wo... Continue Reading

Family traditions are so important. They bring different generations together and form lifelong memories. Last weekend I was able to pass my love of Michigan football on to my grandson, Cole Daniel, as we set off for his Michigan football game in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was a weekend that neither of us will ever forget.
Our journey began early Friday, September 19th when I picked up my daughter, Kirstyn (Cole’s mom), and Cole on our way to the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania airport. We flew to Detroit, Michigan where my brother-in-law, George, picked us up. ... Continue Reading

Working with Willie Nelson on September 12, 2013 was one of the most memorable experiences of my forty year career working in radio and television. It seems like it was last week, but it has now been almost nine months since his last visit to QVC. As Willie wrote in one of his iconic songs, Ain’t It Funny How Time Slips Away?
It doesn’t get any better than working with a music legend/icon who also happens to be a really nice guy. I am blessed to have another opportunity to hang out with him and listen to him again on June 12th when we will launch his br... Continue Reading

Every photograph we take tells a story. Most of us have shoeboxes full of faded and torn photos from different stages of our lives. How many times have you looked at one of those photos wishing it were sharper and more vivid? Maybe it’s time for you to step up to a DSLR camera so all of your digital photo stories will always be razor sharp and in bright, vivid color. Believe it or not, I have a lot of photos from the 70’s when I actually had shoulder length hair. Unfortunately, they were not taken with good cameras and most of them are out ... Continue Reading

Forty-eight years ago, I played my first paying gig as a rock n’ roll musician. I was the rhythm guitarist and vocalist for the group, The Falcons. We performed two songs at the Civitan’s Annual Christmas party in 1964 in my hometown of St. Joseph, Michigan. Our drummer’s dad was the president and my dad was the vice president of this community organization (so we did have connections!) My fourth-grade buddies and I were each paid a dollar for our performance. And, so my life as a Rock n’ Roll musician began. I’ll never fo... Continue Reading

I love the Biblical account of the very first Christmas. The wise men came “bearing gifts” to give to the Christ child. We all have great childhood memories of the best gifts we ever received. However, when we become adults I think we find more joy in giving great gifts to the people we love the most at Christmas time.
My family has many wonderful Christmas memories. When my daughters’, Kirstyn and Kelsey, were little girls we always put out cookies for Santa and carrots for his reindeer along with a nice note to him and Mrs. Claus. The big guy always cam... Continue Reading

The first NFL pre-season game for the 2011 season is scheduled for August 7. If the NFL Players’ Union and the NFL owners do not hammer out a deal this week then the first week of pre-season probably will be canceled. In my opinion, this crazy lock-out has gone on way too long. It is the first work stoppage since 1987. If the first week of pre-season is canceled it will cost the NFL a total of $250 million in revenues. Because of that I’m betting this is the week that a tentative agreement in principle is FINALLY put in place. If that happe... Continue Reading
