Happy March! Soon we’ll be smelling colorful tulips and watching robins build nests. Doesn't that sound refreshing? One of the not-so-happy things to think about (depending on your personality) might be spring cleaning. I have mixed feelings about it—on one hand, it feels SO nice to have a fresh, clean home when you're done. On the other hand, it’s a LOT of work.
For the month of March in our You're Home with Jill blogs, I thought it would be helpful if we tackled one room at a time...cleaning and organizing as we go. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it a hundred t... Continue Reading

I’m headed to the Philadelphia Flower Show this weekend and I’m buttoning up the craft projects for my "Growing Up Gardening" presentation at 11am ET. So I just thought I’d practice my demonstration here in my blog. You don’t mind, right? :)
I love to garden…in fact, I just love being outdoors. I instantly feel relaxed when I’m outside and rejuvenated to be back in touch with nature. I don’t think enough of us garden—it’s so easy nowadays to go to a store and buy fresh produce or flowers. But gardening is a valuable skill a... Continue Reading

Home décor and design has been our theme for the month of February, and I wanted to wrap up the month with a real “wow.” And there’s nobody who wows me more when it comes to design than my friend and interior designer, Angelo Surmelis.
One of the best parts of my job is the people I meet and it’s even sweeter when a guest for a show becomes a friend for a lifetime. That’s exactly what happened with me and Angelo. From our first meeting at QVC, we just clicked. And ever since, Angelo has become a mentor, a confidant, and cheerleader…all the things ... Continue Reading

You’re Home with Jill airs tomorrow at 1pm ET! If you’re home, I’d love to join you for the afternoon. If you’re working, record the show—we’ve got some bright, cheery, springy ideas in store and quite frankly, I CAN’T WAIT to think about spring flowers, spring weather, spring recipes…well, SPRING!
Speaking of spring food, one ingredient that always comes to mind is spinach. I’m not a big fan of mature spinach, but baby spinach leaves are tender, delicate, and perfect with so many things—raw or wilted. One of my favor... Continue Reading

You know the saying two’s company, three’s a crowd? That may be true in dating. But it couldn’t be more wrong when it comes to design. Pay attention the next time you page through a decorative catalog or walk through your favorite home store. Chances are, you’ll find three vases grouped on a coffee table, three shelves hanging on a wall, or three pictures displayed in some way. Why? The effect creates harmony and cohesion. It invites the eye to be drawn to a focal point, which is comfortable for the admirer and ultimately makes your décor feel comfortable.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! What do you have planned for your sweetheart? Small gifts are a nice way to let someone know you care. When it comes to roses or chocolate, I vote roses—and I don’t need dozens! I think one beautiful rose says it as loudly as many. I still can remember one of the most interesting Valentine’s Day gifts I ever received—a serenade by a barbershop quartet! My husband Doug arranged for them to come to the restaurant where we were having dinner. Needless to say, I was totally shocked!
That said, I think Valentine’s Day t... Continue Reading
