While watching the NFL playoff games this weekend, it hit me. The announcers were touting what great crowds were on hand in Denver and Seattle, and the pigskin lovers were whipped into a frenzy. Time and time again, I heard about record attendance numbers, and all I could think of was “really?” That’s when I was able to put into perspective that the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas will almost certainly be the biggest event I ever attend in my life. Sure, I’ve been to the Super Bowl, some big time college bowl games, and I was even lucky enough to attend one... Continue Reading

With Mother’s Day on this month’s calendar, it’s always good to look at mom and all of the things she has done for us over the years. For me, I think of my mom cooking a great meal, putting the Band-Aid on a scraped up knee, or reminding me that brown shoes equals a brown belt. Thank you mom. However, my mom and tech….. not so much. While the other mother in my life (my wife) is surrounded by technology with a smartphone, laptop, iPad® mini, and DVRing every singing show on the planet, my mom has been the opposite. She was the last one I know to get cell phone. She... Continue Reading

I recently watched a documentary on Steve Jobs and Apple®, and one of the descriptions I found so on target was that Steve Jobs was able to create a product we all needed before we even knew we needed it. That’s so true. Fifteen years ago, who would have thought we needed a smartphone, an iPad, or even a computer to make it through our busy days? Not me. I think back to my college days when email was just a fun way to say “hi” to a friend halfway across the country. Today, apps dominate our lives with constant access to news, email, sports scores, games and more. My iPad ... Continue Reading

For many people, their first steps into the Apple® world have been through either the iPhone®or the iPad®, and almost universally the experience is something special. Using the touch of a finger to access the web, answer emails, play games and more is a revolutionary experience. If you’re having a blast as part of this ever expanding community, it may be time to take the next step and try a Mac. With the new Mountain Lion® operating system the world of tablets and computers are colliding in spectacular fashion.
All told, there are more than 200 new features on this new o... Continue Reading

Last week, I had the chance to attend the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Alright let’s get the obligatory information out first. Yes, I had a lot of fun. Yes, I DID work. Yes, I lost a little money. However, the most impressive thing I saw all week was the influence one company had over the event, and it was a company that wasn’t even there. Of course, I’m talking about Apple. The tech giant from Cupertino doesn’t set up a booth in the middle of the 150,000 people combing the convention center floor, but their influence is everywhere. Hundreds of other c... Continue Reading

Becoming a father is a life-changing experience, and there is nothing more rewarding than watching those little ones grow. In my house we reached a few milestones this year. My youngest daughter is officially potty trained (YES! YES! YES!), while my oldest learned to ride a bike, joined the swim team, and started kindergarten. Watching their bodies and brains develop is amazing and filled with so many of those “how did she do that” moments. Not surprisingly, tech has been there along the way.
I have to admit, the first time I gently placed an iPad in my daughters’ hands, lea... Continue Reading

Remember when a tablet was a pill you took for a headache? Yeah, things have changed a bit in the last few years. Now, tablets are a must have for everyone. They are the quick and easy way to connect, surf the web, play games, and basically, consume all kinds of high tech fun. The challenge comes in trying to find the one that fits you, and speaking of one that fits, the super slim Toshiba Excite fits almost anywhere.
Toshiba’s venture into the tablet world has been an impressive one, and it all starts with the screen. At 10”, it’s among the biggest around, yet they’ve... Continue Reading

This upcoming weekend at QVC is going to be awesome. We are going to offer an extra special value for the Apple MacBook Pro, and judging by the popularity of the iPod and iPad here at the Q, it's going to be one wild ride. The MacBook Pro is the 13" version of one of the most popular computers in the world. While I do love my PC, I've also been a Mac owner for years. In fact, if you were to comb through my office closet, you would find my original MacBook which looks like a tank compared to the sleek 13.3" one that you'll see on Sunday.
So what is it about Apple an... Continue Reading

Technology has done so much to bring us together, but when it comes to music, it has also done much to keep us apart. Back in my mullet-wearing days, my friends and I would hang out in someone’s basement to listen to the latest Rush album or spin some classic Led Zeppelin. Today, the iPad®, smartphones, and MP3 players have transitioned those music experiences into something more personal. How many times have you walked down the street, strolled through the park, or gone to the mall and seen dozens of people going about their day with a cord dangling out of their ear? It happens ever... Continue Reading

This is a question that I ask and get asked more often than I count, and my answers vary from day to day. For me, the iPad is a great way to get my kids to learn their ABCs. Other times, it's a way to listen to my favorite music or play a game. On a quiet Saturday morning, it's my newspaper to go along with a cup of coffee. However, if I needed to pick just one thing, it has to be my new on demand TV watching device.
I've got two kids, a great wife, and one crazy schedule, so trying to coordinate time to watch anything is nearly impossible. Sundays at 10pm. Wednesday at 9pm. Sorry TV man, I'v... Continue Reading
