#ALSIceBucketChallenge....Very, Very, Cool.

Internet trends come and go, but once they do hit, look out. Within days, millions (yes millions) of people around the world are joining in and posting about it online. Most of the time, it’s just something silly and mindless (yes, I’m referring to you Harlem Shakers). Other times, it’s just something cute that makes us all laugh. However, all of these viral trends are almost always connected with a common theme. They are simple, fun, and quickly out of our minds in a week or two. The latest trend dominating our news feeds and in-boxes certainly meets the fun criteria, but a... Continue Reading

Taking the Time to "Unplug" from it All.....sort of...

Started by Craig, QVC Electronics in Electronics Talk, Hosts & Personalities 1409845165.027

Relaxing and getting away from it all is how almost everybody likes to enjoy their vacation, and I am no exception. There is a trend to go totally gadget free, and leave all the tech at home, and I was ready to take that challenge during my escape from the everyday routine . So how did QVC’s tech guy fair for 10 straight days unplugged? Not very well. Don’t get me wrong. I get it. The idea of totally disconnecting and getting away from technology is a noble pursuit, but it didn’t work for me. The Super Smith Vacation 2014 began with a trip to a water park. My daughters and I... Continue Reading

Last Reply by drewehart 1409521046.997 | Started by Craig, QVC Electronics in Electronics Talk, Mom to Mom Blogs

Now that we've entered back to school time, the classic question is popping up again. Should I be getting a tablet or a laptop for someone who will be hitting the books this fall? It’s a great question to ask! Unfortunately it’s not always an easy one to answer. As technology continues to advance at lightning speed, the power of tablets continues to advance while the portability of laptops makes them much more versatile as well.  Let’s break it down. Advantages of a laptop For several years, the laptop has been the go-to choice for high school and college students. A 1... Continue Reading

Woo Hoo! Summer is here! No matter where you live in this great land of ours, the kickoff to summer has arrived. Any day now, the school doors will burst open with screaming kids dashing into the sun. The pool will be packed with splashing happy faces, and hopefully you’ll be able to find a slice of paradise to enjoy. With all this time outside, there seems to be a focus on getting away from it all (technology included), but there is definitely a place for some really cool gadgets this time of year. Here are a few to keep by your side this summer season: Bluetooth Speakers- What’... Continue Reading

Time to Catch Up - It's Q Review!

I am a news and information junkie. I admit it. I need to have my finger on the pulse of what is going on whether it’s in my neighborhood, the tech universe, or around the world. This is why I constantly have my iPhone or iPad in close proximity so that I can see that highlight or catch that story moments after it happens. Even with the latest tech, there are things that are going to fall through the cracks. That’s the reason why we have the nightly news or the sports highlight shows. They give you a recap of what goes on around us. Sure, I would love to watch every game, but somet... Continue Reading

The "Oooos" and "Ahhhs" of the Consumer Electronics Show 2013 - Viva Las Vegas!

Started by Craig, QVC Electronics in Electronics Talk, Hosts & Personalities 1390597995.347

While watching the NFL playoff games this weekend, it hit me. The announcers were touting what great crowds were on hand in Denver and Seattle, and the pigskin lovers were whipped into a frenzy. Time and time again, I heard about record attendance numbers, and all I could think of was “really?”  That’s when I was able to put into perspective that the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas will almost certainly be the biggest event I ever attend in my life. Sure, I’ve been to the Super Bowl, some big time college bowl games, and I was even lucky enough to attend one... Continue Reading

The iPad®....Changing the Way My Mom Sees the World Each Day

Last Reply by Goldnbee 1384668615.09 | Started by Craig, QVC Electronics in Electronics Talk, TSV Talk

With Mother’s Day on this month’s calendar, it’s always good to look at mom and all of the things she has done for us over the years. For me, I think of my mom cooking a great meal, putting the Band-Aid on a scraped up knee, or reminding me that brown shoes equals a brown belt. Thank you mom. However, my mom and tech….. not so much. While the other mother in my life (my wife) is surrounded by technology with a smartphone, laptop, iPad® mini, and DVRing every singing show on the planet, my mom has been the opposite. She was the last one I know to get cell phone. She... Continue Reading

All In the Family, Apple® Addition – Make Room for Mini Me!

I recently watched a documentary on Steve Jobs and Apple®, and one of the descriptions I found so on target was that Steve Jobs was able to create a product we all needed before we even knew we needed it. That’s so true. Fifteen years ago, who would have thought we needed a smartphone, an iPad, or even a computer to make it through our busy days? Not me. I think back to my college days when email was just a fun way to say “hi” to a friend halfway across the country. Today, apps dominate our lives with constant access to news, email, sports scores, games and more. My iPad ... Continue Reading

For many people, their first steps into the Apple® world have been through either the iPhone®or the iPad®, and almost universally the experience is something special. Using the touch of a finger to access the web, answer emails, play games and more is a revolutionary experience. If you’re having a blast as part of this ever expanding community, it may be time to take the next step and try a Mac. With the new Mountain Lion® operating system the world of tablets and computers are colliding in spectacular fashion. All told, there are more than 200 new features on this new o... Continue Reading

This is SIRI-iously Good Stuff - Apple iPad® 4th Generation

Last week, I had the chance to attend the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Alright let’s get the obligatory information out first. Yes, I had a lot of fun. Yes, I DID work. Yes, I lost a little money. However, the most impressive thing I saw all week was the influence one company had over the event, and it was a company that wasn’t even there. Of course, I’m talking about Apple. The tech giant from Cupertino doesn’t set up a booth in the middle of the 150,000 people combing the convention center floor, but their influence is everywhere. Hundreds of other c... Continue Reading
