It's that time, and frankly, I dread one part of it every year. Shopping for my Mom.
She is, hands down, the hardest person in my life to buy for. Ugh. She is eclectic and eccentric and has unique taste and has everything (bc at 75 you normally do) and she is somewhat limited in these later years in terms of her mobility, so for so many reasons, my brother and I groan over what to delight her with, each year. Whoever your "Mom" person is, I thought I'd spend this blog sharing my 2013 'Top Ten' list for gifts and stockings. These are ge... Continue Reading

I discovered and got hooked on American Idol, several years after the show began. I only started watching after hearing the constant excitement and chatter about it from my coworkers in the break room, the cafeteria, the hallways ……. just about everywhere throughout QVC. After all, I didn't want to be the only one not in the loop. And, I was definitely glad I tuned in; I fell in love with the show and had lots of fun on break talking about it with my coworkers! But still, something was missing for me!
Nobody at home wanted to watch with me and I longed for a little American Idol... Continue Reading

I'm going to the land of fish & chips. Royal babies. Black cabs, Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, Jack the Ripper! (And a subway called, the "tube") I love London. My brother used to live there for 5 yrs and his abroad-ness came at the perfect time in my young, unemployed-ness. So I have spent much time in London, Christmas's too, and it is still my fav place in all of Europe. Feel like it's my foreign hometown. (Uh, one can dream at least) Going for a short trip with Joe and his boys and we've already started buying tickets for the London Eye, Madame Tussauds, Etc.&nb... Continue Reading

Sipping glass of white wine. HVAC guy is here checking furnace before we head into my fav season, FALL! I could live perpetually somewhere that was Fall year round. Glorious smells and feel and sounds to the season. Harvest is the bomb, in my book. I love the food (cobbler, butternut squash bisque, hearty flavors) I love the scents (the air when it goes crisp, the wood burning and wafting) and I love the sounds (kids trick or treating, crackling fires, the roar of football touchdown cheers). Must be the Midwest in me. I find it a very pensive, cathartic time. It's a time that makes m... Continue Reading

Apologies my lovelies (and gentlemen) for the tardiness of this writing. I was honeymooning in Europe the first two weeks of September, so this month's blog took a backseat to pasta, pizza, croissants, red wine, sunning, swimming, and overall, me dreaming of how I could move to Europe and earn a living. Thus far it would appear my only hope is waiting tables (which I love) street performing (which doesn't require a work permit, but I have no musical OR instrumental talent) or begging someone European to adopt me as a grown adult. Frankly, none seem within the realm of possibility but then agai... Continue Reading

I'm staring at my Christmas tree. I know, insane, it's not even Halloween.
I finally found the one that for years I have been pining for. (No pun intended, pine-ing). A long needle country pine, like the country cabin Christmas trees, but done in artificial. (How come nobody does long needle faux pines?). It arrived...in a huge-normous box. And instead of dragging it downstairs into my utility closet to store for a month...before dragging it back UPSTAIRS to setup for "the season"...I decided now was as good a time as any. I love it. Only regret is I should have ordered the 9... Continue Reading

It's Wedding Wednesday...and as the big day nears, I thought I’d share a pic of a cross I'm giving as favors. It’s a holding prayer cross from Bethlehem, Israel ….. so special to me.
Also, wanted to share a story/reading our Pastor Pat gave us. It is such a wise, heartfelt, humble, honest reading. If only we could all master this, we probably would never struggle in our love relationships. It's called Different Drummers ~
If you do not want what I want, please try not to tell me that my want is wrong. Or if my beliefs ... Continue Reading

It's our last wedding Wednesday (but something NEW is coming nxt wed) and it has me wanting to say THANK YOU. Your love and joy for me and Joe has been amazing. Joe and I are eternally grateful. Thank you for letting me gush and bore you w all the pictures and details. This picture is of all the well wishes people wrote on tiny cards at my wedding.
They then hung the cards on a rope w laundry clips (think rustic barn chic). My fav piece of marriage advice was, "never underestimate the power of, 'I'm wrong, you're right, I'm sorry'". The rules were, "please write on a card one place we shoul... Continue Reading

I've been married 3 weeks now. People keep asking me how it feels. My answer: I don't feel any different now than I did before, except that it's fun and totally weird (in a good way) to use the expression, "...my husband" in conversation. Joe and I are overwhelmed and honored and humbled by the support and love all of you have shown us. There is no amount of thanks possible to share our gratitude. I know our wedding journey on my FB page began to rival the 'Luke & Laura' saga on GH. Ha! But joy has a funny way of making you gush 24/7. For those of you who aren't on FB and didn't see t... Can I tell you how annoyed I am? This is the THIRD time I have started writing this blog, only to find, somehow, I've deleted the draft that was nearly done. If you read my blogs then you know how painfully long they are and how PAINFUL it is to lose them and have to start over. So here we go AGAIN...for the THIRD time!!!!!! (AHHHHHHH)
Sitting here on SMQ. David's selling the Dyson...Kerstin is behind me on social chat patrol...and I'm, having a good hair day. (Not trying to be narcissistic or self congratulatory but since that doesn't always happen, thought I'd share. Today feels like&n... Continue Reading
