I couldn’t decide if it was like standing on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence looking at the fine Italian craftsmanship, walking by the windows in New York City at the fine store on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, or standing at the counter of one of the most prestigious jewelry stores in the world.
Many of the hottest things happening in jewelry will be featured throughout the day. There will be lot... An expert in the field goes on to say “Because there is a limited supply and it’s usually irreplaceable, (high-end) estate jewelry is often called the 'caviar of the jewelry business'”.
We have partnered with one of the foremost experts in the Estate Jewelry world, Simon Rarities of New York, to bring you a select group of jewelry that truly shows the beauty and expertise of jewelers throughout the years. They each have unique properties and fascinating stories. Did you know that Alexandrite was named after Czar Alexander II of Russia because it was discovered on his birthday in 1839 or that sapphires are believed to symbolize prosperity and be a charm against “unchastity”?
Alexandrite has always been one of those mysterious and unattainable stones to me. During my training at the Gemological Institute of America, I remember the discussions about how rare it was and almost impossible to find. The examp... I just returned from an incredible trip spending time in all three locations-all gemstone mines located in some of the most remote areas of Thailand.
Please join me on midnight on August 2 during Destination Gemstones on a gemstone journey from the mines in remote Thailand to the trading and cutting center of Chantaburi. I hope to not only share with you photos of these incredible places but show you how these treasures come out of the ground as a roc... My brother, sisters, and I just took my 88-year-old Mother whale watching in Cape Cod. Not only did we see over 30 whales but stood at the back of the boat while a giant humpback whale put on quite a show. She swam back and forth under the boat over and over again for about 10 minutes jumping up on each side of the boat and showing off. The crew said they had never seen anything like it before!
There was even more excitement generated by several sightings of a brown bear on the s... I have been lucky enough to travel the world and work directly with the artisans in all of these countries to bring this extraordinary product to you. I wanted to explain exactly what artisan-crafted means because no one else can do what we do.
Artisan-crafted means that each component is hand crafted by an artisan. It takes many artisans to make one piece of jewelry because of the many components and parts that are a part of it. The artisans do not sit in big modern factories but most work in eit... Continue Reading
