I present jewelry a lot, and I often talk about how a specific piece of jewelry is made, but I wanted to get some hands on experience, so I took a class. The class was Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design, and jewelry designer Susan Roggio was our fearless leader. I chose to make a necklace and three bangles. Before anyone lifted a finger, Sue demonstrated the steps we would need to take in order to complete the pieces.
I had pieces of nickel alloy and copper, and I started by cutting out my shapes and putting designs on my metal
Then Su... Continue Reading

I loved this blonde wig the minute I put it on. I love the Blonde Ambition cut, and the completely realistic coloring (with the darker roots and the different shades of blonde). I put it on and I feel…”polished”. The cut is precise, it’s longer on one side, and falls in that perfect “straight from the salon” way.
You don’t often see a sister with blonde hair, so I feel very conspicuous.
I met my girlfriend for dinner, and I send her a text that says “look for a blonde.” She spots me and says thank goodness for the text, because... Continue Reading

Last Thursday, Dress for Success held their fundraising gala called Something to Share. QVC had the distinction of being the corporate honoree.
Over the years QVC has donated over 5,000 items to the organization. While I haven’t donated that much , I’ve donated to Dress for Success for years.
I am proud of my relationship with the organization, so when QVC tapped me to attend the gala, I was honored and ready. Rita Yarsinsky (my trusty Facebook partner) and I hopped on the bus and headed to NYC.
It was a formal affair, so before dinner we ate passed hors d’oe... Continue Reading

What’s a dramatic change that only takes a second? A wig. In the next four weeks I’ll be “Wiggin’ Out.” I’ll wear four different wigs in four weeks, and share the story each week.
Years ago, wearing a wig meant you had something to hide (loss of hair or an illness), and keeping the wig a secret was crucial.
These days, wearing a wig is like putting on false eyelashes, fake nails, or getting your hair colored. You could just as easily be wearing a wig for fun and adventure (hello my Las Vegas friends), as for actual coverage.
Regardless of wh... Continue Reading

We all clean out our closets right? The question is, what do you do with all of your clothes? For years, that answer for me has been Dress for Success. This organization provides professional attire for women in need (they have been doing so for over 15 years). I knew I wanted to donate the minute I heard about them. As a broadcaster I wore suits most of the time, and Dress for Success was a way that I could help empower other women to achieve their dreams simply by donating my gently used suits. Does a suit make the woman? No, but it’s a strong visual resume that says, “I mean bus... Continue Reading

I’ve recently started something called “Let’s Go! Monday” on my Facebook page. Each week I post a picture of a place I would like to visit, with a few little facts about the location. Daydreaming about places I want to visit is just one of the ways I stoke my passion for adventure. Throw out a suggestion for pretty much anything, and I’ll pack my bags. I love to travel, not necessarily the process of flying itself…lol, but the destinations. Scanning through my photos recently, I realized I’ve done quite a bit traveling over th... Continue Reading

Every year around Christmas I have the glorious opportunity to present toys :) This is crazy fun for me because I get a chance to look at, and play with, everything we have to offer (well, not everything, but close). Sometimes I get lost in the presentations because I’m shopping at work! During some presentations, you’ll hear me say “I bought this for my nieces and nephews and here’s what they thought.” Now that the rush is over, I think it’s only fair to show you what I picked this year, and trust me when I tell you that I’m always shooting for ... A few years ago on a bright and sunny day in Los Angeles, I went to get my nails done. In the salon afterwards I went to my ATM to get cash and I got a message that said I didn’t have enough money to withdrawal $20. What? Panic. I called my bank.
“You have a zero (or close) balance. That can’t be right, I have money in the bank, and I have my bank card on me.”
I had been electronically pick-pocketed.
At the time I didn’t even understand it. My banker asked if anyone else had access to my card? No. Had I purchased such and such at so and so location? No, a... Continue Reading

My best girlfriend Timi and I met when I was 12. Her younger brother and I had a crush on each other, and being the older sister, she had to meet this girl on the school bus who her brother liked. Well the crush didn’t last, but my friendship with his older sister Timi did. For 35 years we’ve been best friends, but we’ve never taken a vacation together… until now. Seven days on a Caribbean cruise. It was a rare affair of adventure, eating, and togetherness.
We kicked things off with ice cream on the Lido deck.
And we took in one adventure after another ... Continue Reading
