I love that at my age I still get to enjoy plenty of “First” experiences. This Thanksgiving I’ll be a hosting dinner for friends on my lake + cooking my first turkey, in I can’t remember how many years. I’m a fairly fearless guy, a more than decent cook yet the thought of roasting a turkey scares the heck out of me. With a new oven, all the appropriate roasting tools + tons of “The Perfect Foolproof” recipe from everyone I’ve shared this fear with, my bird should be OK. Luckily my neighbors are all bringing... Fall has always been my favorite season.....maybe it's because I was born in September.
I know how lucky I am to live a dual NY life. I spend the week in a city that comes alive in Fall...The kickoff of fashion week, opera, dance and theatre. People just look better when cooler weather demands a change in fashion.
I love looking down from my studio overlooking Bryant Park- the very heart of the city or eating breakfast in that glorious oasis while feeding the crafty sparrows.
On weekends my lakeside country house is where I cocoon while watching postcard-worthy autumn sunse... Continue Reading

NY Fashion Week was truly extraordinary. And what were the big surprises?
My friend Carolina Herrera presented a wonderful collection that was as elegant and edgy as she is—full of beautiful color, print pairing, and fluid fabrics that make women look beautiful. I loved it! Then, Diane Von Furstenberg presented her “Rendezvous” collection. As one fashion editor said, it was "sophisticated, simple, and smoldering.” Diane understands a woman’s body, and her clothes and beautiful use of color and print reflect that. As president of the CFDA, Diane has proven to be ... Continue Reading

On June 4 New York City celebrated the biggest night in fashion at the CFDA Fashion Awards Gala at Lincoln Center. Saturday Night Lives’ Seth Meyers, brilliantly hosted this year’s event that honors the multi-faceted talent of the fashion industry. The nominees were announced at a special meeting of the board at Diane Von Furstenberg’s and the winners were announced at the Gala. It’s a great night to be a part of!
As past president of CFDA, I attended with my good, beautiful, talented and very busy friend, Bernadette Peters. ... Continue Reading

What signifies Fall for you? The first true sign of Fall for me is when the bubble goes up on my tennis club’s courts. Bubble up…Fall here!
So last weekend was the beginning of fall for me when. I played 2 games of doubles inside the bubble protecting the courts. I love that I can play all winter, rain, shine, snow, or frigid temperatures.
Out at my weekend house there are more fall signals. The geese are starting to migrate somewhere else, only to be replaced by a flock of newly arrived ducks. In the morning when the air is cool and crisp it’s fleece time again. I love to... Continue Reading

It’s been far too long since I visited SF and what a special city it is!
Because it’s been so long I was delighted by the changes that have taken place and had a wonderful time. I went to see longtime friends and join them for the opening of the opera, Moby Dick. My great friend, playwright Terrance McNally, was very influential in inspiring this production, so it was also a personal journey for me and special to be with him for the opening night.
In addition to seeing another opera, I was amazed at the wonderful restaurants SF has to offer. I had some terrific meals, and was tot... Continue Reading

How often do you realize that there's a long way of doing something and a short way? Telling a story, taking a trip, finding a solution…the list is endless.
I was getting ready to leave the Hamptons and drive back to NY when I realized that my weekend was truly a "long and short of it" kind of three days.
Played tennis twice…all doubles. First game, our fourth never showed. So, as my friend Roe is fond of saying, “long story short" or "LSS," we played Canadian doubles…or in English, two against one. And LSS, this guy did pretty well and came in second!
The opera a... Continue Reading

A few weeks ago, my beloved car died and spent too much time in ICU. When they finally figured out what was wrong, it was pretty clear that after a lot of miles and years, it was time for new wheels. While awaiting the grim news, I strolled through the lot and sure enough, a new car spoke to me. Bottom line is I picked it up on Friday and we bonded over the weekend. My new Ipanema Sand car, while it's smaller than I’m used to, is a real beauty and I’m loving downsizing! This car's sporty, nimble, and my new good friend. And all of my friends who've been yellin... Continue Reading

How are you celebrating July 4th? It’s my favorite summer holiday, filled with family, friends, and parties that celebrate our nation. I never forget how lucky I am to have my weekend beach house, and I hope that wherever you find yourself this long weekend — be it at home, at a friend's, or on the vacation you've so looked forward to — that it's relaxing and comfortable...just like my loungewear!
This should be a busy weekend! Little Red has just opened in Southampton and I love it! It’s already a hot spot and it's sure to be a "Big Red" hit. I'll be playing a lot of ... Continue Reading

I love the changing of the seasons in NY, especially fall. Listening to that special song, it's easy to remember why it seems so inviting.
Autumn certainly brings the thrill of "first nighting" with NY Fashion Week, Broadway, opera and art openings…all the things I love. It's hard to top Mother Nature who invented those rich, green leaves that turn into shades of vibrant golds, reds, rusts, and wines!
And, what’s more invigorating than a crisp, cool morning? It’s pure luxury to grab a few extra minutes under the covers and slip into something comfy and cozy to start t... Continue Reading
