Cottage Farms Tip: Get Ready for Spring

Even in areas where it is still cold, there are a number of things you can do right now to get a jumpstart on spring gardening. The number one priority: clean up leaf and other accumulated debris since you last raked the leaves or mowed the grass. Removing debris helps your landscaped areas warm up quicker so when it is time to plant, your job a little easier. This is also an ideal time to take inventory and make mental notes (or write them down so you do not forget) of what needs to be done in the near future as far as pruning, weeding, mulching, and planting. In most areas of the country, it is one of the best times to sow grass seed, even when the ground is frozen. The natural freezing and thawing helps the seed adhere to the soil, increasing the germination rate and getting the new grass off to a fast start.

If your ground is still frozen or very cold, now is not a good time to try and amend or turn the soil. Let nature take its course and wait until the ground warms up before disturbing the soil. There are lots of other things you can do to get ready to garden - sharpen your tools, service your lawnmower and other power equipment, and do the “what, when and where” you will plant this spring!

I have purchased many of your products on QVC. I have only one product left that is alive and that is the strawberry plants. They produce the most amount of leaves I have ever seen...no fruit...just leaves. I have wasted alot of money here and wish that all my plants had become like the pics of the beautiful blooms you show on the program. Your plants aren't for Western Colorado growers....high altitudes, short summers, just a few weeks of spring and fall and long winters in the sub degree temps.
Contact them, they are GREAT at fixing a problem and replacing things.
I've contacted them and Robertas. This reminds me I need to contact Cottage Farms and get a replacement on something from last year.
Hi I'm looking for a little help.......I bought 2 Butterfly Bushs last year and planted them and they were absolutely beautiful....and they really did attract Butterflies. This year I don't think they are doing so well, well one it getting a few leafs on it while the other is still bare. I'm worries that the that is bare will not come back......should I wait a little while longer and give it time to bloom.....or should I cal Cottage Farms. They are such beautiful plants!
Two years ago I purchased three Cottage Farms Butterfly bushes and I planted then in one hole. Flowers each year, last year it was six feet high and six feet wide. My soil is poor, but has good drainage. Each spring, probably first week in April I will cut the entire bush back to 8 inches high again. The leaves start as small soft green leaves. It does need feeding, I do it twice a season with slow release pellet food. This year I am going to try something a little different, braid some of the new shoots to tidy up the bottom and give a little room for underplanting. My blooms are white, raspberry and dark blue/purple and one day there were nine butterflies on it at one time, most of them were monarchs. I live 1 mile outside Phila.
